Hi,

I'm using official carrier and DO NOT care about unlocking (now or in the future).

I have used a custom 3.1 IPSW to get to 3.1 jailbroken, but I understand that the baseband will still be at 3.0.

My question is, what's the best way to upgrade my baseband to the current 3.1 version?? (can i just restore to 3.1 standard ipsw via iTunes, then restore again using custom 3.1 for the jailbreak?)

I would like to know the answer for this myself. I was expecting pwnage tool to offer this option but it is disabled for 3GS when making custom 3.1 firmware

I have a factory unlocked 3GS so upgrading to newer baseband is something I actually want to do.

I have asked musclenerd from the devteam but don't really expect a response as they are all so busy.

Updating your iphone to 3.1 would NOT be a good idea unless your ECID is backed up or sauriks server.

If your firmware is currently on 3.1 and its a custom 3.1 firmware , your baseband hasnt been updated on purpose,and you do not want it updated or it will ruin your jailbreak !

What you suggest will not work

You will get latest baseband but you lose jailbreak. The custom Firmware created by pwnagetool can only be loaded if the phone was jailbroken on 3.0. Loading official 3.1 will remove the jailbreak from 3.0 and right now 3.1 is simply not directly jailbreakable.

I got a very logical response from the devteam member who made pwnage tool. Do the upgrade manually using bbupdater!

Will do a bit more research and then try this myself sometime soon.

The only way to do this (currently) is if you have a stored 3.0 SHSH.

Assuming you don't care about unlock:

1. Update to stock 3.1
2. Downgrade to stock 3.0 using cydia server or local server (tinyTSS)*
3. Redsn0w 0.8
4. Pwnage 3.1.3

Have you tried it yet. I have gone to the link you provided but found nothing satisfactory. Am I missing anything. Please response.

Not tried it yet, but I expect that it will work as it is essentially the same procedure that is done by apple during a proper upgrade to 3.1

hmm, I thought you can restore from 3.1 standard to a jailbroken 3.1 custom IPSW, providing your 3GS has been jailbroken at same stage in the past...

I have not seen anything from the devteam explicitly stating that this won't work. However everything they have said so far seems to imply that you need to have 3.0 jailbroken OS installed (even if it can't boot) to upgrade to a 3.1 custom IPSW.

My theory is that upgrading to official 3.1 rewrites the pwned LLB with an original version that is not pwned.

If there is anyone who has upgraded to official 3.1 and wants to try to restore directly to a pwnage tool custom 3.1 please report back. I think it will fail, but I am honestly not 100% sure.
