I been browsing online in anticipating for the miracle of a jailbreak and unlock for the OTB 3.1 3GS iphone and I came upon this from a site kind of like us...

So far it's just a codename for something similar to pwnage tool but for windows and hopefully he will be successful in doing it along with chronic-dev's greenpois0n .... let's pray

Here's what I know. If --- no, WHEN the 3.1(+) 3GS solution becomes available - It will be released by the Dev Team. A million other web sites can claim they're working on it... They can be ultrayellowsn0w, or pinkth0ng, or gr33nm1st... it doesn't matter what its called or code named... Until something REAL and usable comes along, the DEV TEAM so far have been the only real solution providers... that's my opinion anyway.

I think greenpois0n and sn0wbreeze will be legit .... hopefully it will be released soon....

Firstly, to be clear, the guys behind greenpois0n are solid, they were involved in jailbreaking the iPod touch 2nd gen. The exploit for the iPod touch 2nd gen was reused to provide an untethered jailbreak for the 3GS.

I have sincere doubts about sn0wbreeze

This jailbreak will be released when it is ready, but I expect that to be in a timeframe of days or weeks. Not months.

The main guy (ih8sn0w) behind sn0wbreeze don't appear to have the same degree of skills. Up to this point I would compare ih8sn0w to zibri (taking other's work and slightly improving it, then claiming it as their own).

sn0wbreeze is an AT command that is still present in the 3.1 baseband that can be used to crash the baseband OS. If you are lucky and clever such commands can be used to inject code into the baseband OS. This is how all the previous sn0w versions work.

I am not saying that sn0wbreeze will never happen. If it is released it will be buggy and probably only work on 3.1 for example. Apple will then know the AT command and block it in 3.2 or whatever. Better to hold onto such a command until 4.0 which will likely not work with 3.x basebands. The people who have "accidentally" upgraded to an apple 3.1 version are a small but very vocal minority, who were clearly warned not to upgrade. There are also more and more official unlocks available now in many countries. This is the path I took with my 3GS purchase.

The devteam do not ask for donations and they impress with consistent well tested professional software for free. They have a lot more wins against Apple in this ongoing jailbreak/unlock game than these new upstarts like ih8sn0w have.

Just to confirm ,

the ih8snow project is not a 3.1 3gs jailbreak or downgrade

Its simply just a windows based program of the new pwnage tool the dev team just recently released.

Once again were in dissapointment.

Hes not releasing info on the soft because he doesnt want the dev team up his ass for doing work for them.

I wouldn't say he is "stealing" other people's work like zibri. Zibri's tool did a lot for some of us including myself on jailbreaking and unlocking the earlier firmware version on the 2G iphone.

Now a question that I'm having. Is there anyway that I can use a custom firmware that was made using that pwnage tool 3.1.3 and restore my stock, OTB 3.1 firmware on my iphone 3GS? If that works well, will i be safe for a future possible of a unlock? Or would my phone be bricked if I tried to restore to a custom firmware? I'm just afraid my phone wouldn't let me be able to use it, ie.. just showing the connect to itunes to activate for example.... or even worse

You need to wait for greeenpois0n that will enable jailbreak on 3.1 OTB 3GS phones. Pwnagetool for 3GS requires that the phone already have been jailbroken at 3.0 or 3.0.1, in other words it does not support 3.1 OTB phones.

oh no I was referring to just using that made .ipsw file and just use itunes to restore to that but with cydia installed in it and all the jailbreak information stored already in that ispw file ... why would that not work?

If its 3.1 firmware and your currently on 3.0

If your saying its a custom made ipsw @ the 3.1 firmware that is.

Apple doesnt sign 3.0 firmware and 3.0.1 anymore.

So it wont work there.

But yes...its safe to upgrade to a custom 3.1 using pwnage tool
