The current EU legislation requires that carriers in all EU countries maintain a shared EIR

There are similar rules in Australia that require all carriers in Australia to maintain a shared EIR.

Whether this phone would work for you depends on whether both Australia and the UK publish/subscribe to the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR), which is also known as the IMEI DB

"When mobile equipment is stolen or lost the owner will typically contact their local operator with a request that it should be blocked. If the local operator possesses an Equipment Identity Register (EIR), it then will put the device IMEI into it, and can optionally communicate this to the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) which blacklists the device in all other operator switches that use the CEIR. With this blacklisting in place the device becomes unusable on any operator that uses the CEIR, making theft of mobile equipment a useless business proposition."

I would not risk it, even if it works now, it could stop working at any time in the future due to the increasing push to share blacklisted IMEIs globally via the CEIR.

what's blacklisted? i've never heard of the term b4
if you are referring to the IMEI being blacklisted usually this only happens if the phone is stolen the carrier will blacklist it. the carrier will report the blacklisted IMEI to CEIR which is supposed to prevent that imei from operating on any network that is in compliance with and reports to them.

The carrier can also blacklist the IMEI if it is reported lost. Also some carriers may blacklist your IMEI if you fall into arrears on your contract.
