Ok so i have an iphone 3G currently on 3.0 firmware and is jailbroken successfully its not unlocked, im happy with O2 as my service provider, and I want to know how to update to 3.1.2 with keeping my jailbreak. Anyone think they can point me to a tutorial or guide? I've tried using the latest version of pwnage tool on a stock 3.1.2 ipsw but it always says incorrect firmware bundle (latest pwnage tool release and on my hackint0sh machine.) My iPhone is synced to my windows machine so a jailbreak method for windows would be great
I would also not like to lose any of my jailbroken data. So, any suggestions? thanks in advance

You have two solutions.
The second option removes your ability to software unlock, possibly for ever. You say it is not important because you are happy with O2. There is a higher resale value for iPhones if they can be software unlocked. At the moment O2 does not offer official unlocks (this may change soon, as O2 is losing it's exclusive monopoly on iPhones next month) Blackra1n RC2 is supposed to jailbreak 3G iPhones a lot more reliably than the first release of blackra1n. It is fast and a jailbreak only, it does not hacktivate (which you don't need) or install the AFC2 service (which can be installed from Cydia if necessay) |

I tried the first option but it always said incorrect firmware bundle, i tried using the stock one apple provided me and one that i found on the internet both with the same results, any reason this might be happening?

Are you sure you are using pwnagetool 3.1.4?
The IPSW you should be using is: iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw and can be downloaded from apple at the following address http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....1_Restore.ipsw Pwnagetool checks that the IPSW is identical to the stock IPSW by comparing the SHA1 hash with a known good value. It is possible that the stock IPSW was modified by your computer before you tried to load it in pwnagetool. How was the IPSW downloaded? Did you download it on your windows machine and then transfer it to your hackint0sh machine? Regarding losing your existing jailbroken data, the recommendation from the devteam is to always set an iPhone up as a new phone rather than restore from an iTunes backup. This results in the best battery life and avoids stability problems. The same is true for using the update function in iTunes rather than restore. Apple's update function does not keep track of which programs were installed via Cydia and some parts of these programs may still be present on the upgraded system but they will not be working correctly. Re-jailbreaking via blackra1n will not fix all the issues related to this. In summary, restore rather than update and setup iPhone as new for best reliability. Whether you use pwnagetool or blackra1n to jailbreak reall depends on if you want to prevent upgrading baseband. |

you are doing something wrong.
Use pwnagetool 3.1.4 to create your custom 3.1.2 firmware. Answer yes that your phone has been pwned before. Connect the phone, use itunes, shift-click restore to select the custom firmware you just created. You don't download anything with itunes.
