Do you rely on unlock?

Updating to official apple 3.1 and 3.1.2 firmwares updates your modem baseband to a version that can't be unlocked with ultrasn0w or yellowsn0w. If you restore to 3.1.2 with a custom ipsw made with pwnagetool this does not upgrade baseband which allows unlock to be kept

You normaly can't downgrade baseband. Try 3g fuzzyband downgrader from cydia. If it can downgrade your baseband then you can downgrade your OS back to 2.2.1 This works only for about 5-10% of 3g iPhones sold just after the 3g was launched.

If you don't need unlock due to factory unlock why do lyou want to stay on 2.2.1? 3.x is quite stable now and does not need to use more battery than 2.x if configured correctly.

well, for one my pictures are syncing, everytime itunes try to sync them it says it cannot read from the disk, it might be protected, i can't get the sbssettings to work, i installed it, but when i swipe my finger nothing comes up, the cracked beejive doesn't work on 3.1.2, as oppose on 2.2.1 it works like a charm.

I did downgrade from 3.0 to 2.21, but when i try from 3.1.2 it gives me the iphone coud not be restored unknown error

Was the error number 1015? If so, you probably can ignore this and simply use irecovery to push the iPhone back out of recovery mode.

Look at the following guide for instructions: Downgrade iPhone 3GS 3.1 to 3.0 It talks about 3GS and 3.1.2 to 3.0 but it should be the same steps for you with a 3G iPhone going from 3.1.2 to 2.2.1

The only time I have ever had sbsettings not work was when I tried to bake it into the IPSW with pwnage tool. It was installed but never worked until I removed it and reinstalled it manually. Not sure why.

We don't talk about cracked apps here on this forum. I personally got beejive at half price on sale a while back and am very glad to have official updates and push functionality.

Not sure what causes the problem with photo syncing, you would need to provide more details.

i believe the error was 1016 or 1015 and i jailbreak 3.1.2 with blackrain in which case the sbs settings should be working, i will try that link u provided and report back.

If you jailbroke with blackra1n make sure to NOT install Icy. If you install cydia plus icy then cydia does not work properly. This might be why sbsettings did not work for you.

The error you are seeing when downgrading from 3.x to 2.x is because of the baseband mismatch in the firmware.

As Olethros said, you can ignore this and continue. If the phone is stuck in recovery mode, you may have to use iRecovery to kick it out.

Blackra1n only jailbreak but it does not hacktivate if you are on a non approved provider. Blackra1n also does not include the afc patch. It's best to use pwnagetool or redsnow when dealing with 3.0/3.0.1/3.1/3.1.2 fw. For jaibreaking 2.x, your best choice is quickpwn.
