I just accidentally found a way to make the iphone 3g faster after upgrading to 3.0 firmware.

I upgraded my iphone 3g from 2.2.1 to 3.0 a few months ago and it was running so slow. Playing Need for Speed was a nightmare, after a few races, I would have to restart the application or do a hard restart of the iphone. Playing Monopoly or BeJewels2 was pretty slow as well.

Just right now, I installed a theme called "illumine" thru cydia, and all of the sudden the iphone was running pretty quick again. I tried all of the applications, and none gives me problems so far. I'm so thrilled right now. I can't explained how it fixes the lagging problem. All I know is my iphone is running pretty fast again, and that's all i care. Recommend installing Winterboard first before installing "illumine", doing vice versa will not work. Try this at your own risk.

Anyhow, if you have updated to 3.0, 3.0.1, 3.1, or 3.1.2 and experiencing the lagging problem, then try the "illumine" theme and tell me if it helps or not.

Man, I wished I have discovered this 2 months ago to save myself countless hours searching the web and forums trying to solve this lagging problem. Needless to say, I restored my iphone from 2.2.1 to 3.0 and back to 2.2.1 like ten times. I can't believe it was just that easy. I hope this thread helps someone with their iphone 3.0 lagging problem. I don't have os 3.1 or 3.1.2, so I don't know whether it works or not for those os.

my pc crash , so i needed to re-install itune but i need to make sure its not gonna chnage a thing in my cell !?

Yes, you can restore os 3.0 with itunes 9.0, I just did it for my friend the other day.

for PC press SHIFT + Restore, browse for os 3.0 - saved on your computer.

It should take about 10 mins, after restored -

Use redsn0w 7.2 to jailbreak than ultrasn0w to unlock thru cydia.

when done, restart itunes, choose set up iphone as a new iphone, this will solve the battery drainage problem.

just read your posting and naturally i was intrigued because i have 3G OS 3.0 and the slow respond time of the phone simply drives me crazy.

so i installed illumine per your suggestion, yet i can't see my phone being any faster than my other theme. at least not to the point that is noticeable. this app is about 20M, so i just un-installed it .

i would be very curious if anyone else has tried it and notice any difference.

are you saying you also installed illumine and your phone is still very slow? i am pretty sure the illumine app does not change anything for me like what the guy who posted this thread suggests.

Here is exactly what I did with my iphone and also my friend's iphone.

upgrade from 2.2.1 to 3.0, iphone 3G bootroom is 5.9, made from around Jan. 2009.

-Downloaded os 3.0, Press Shift + Restore in itunes, restore to 3.0
-Jailbreak with redsn0w 7.2, unlock with ultrasn0w
-set up as new iphone in itunes
-iphone was running slow about an hour after restore
-installed illumine about 20MB, both phones run noticeable faster.

I wish I could make a video and post it on youtube for you guys to see the difference but I don't want to mess around with the iphone right now cuz it's working perfectly. But if another friend of mine wants me to upgrade their iphone, then I will do that for you guys to see.

well, my 3G OS 3.0 was jailbroken and unlocked a while back. like many other users, it runs extremely slow due to OS 3.0.

i did install illumine (yes about 20M), but i honestly did not notice any improvement in speed. so i un-installed the theme.

again, it would be interesting to know if anyone else have time to test this out and get back to us here.
