so, on my 3.1 jailbroken 3G, the Mail app is totally nuts.....
I had a draft email on my yahoo account that I stored for a day, and, even though I deleted it, it still reappeared on my iPhone like 5 days afterwards even though I would delete it off the iPhone every time..... the draft was long gone from the Yahoo server and it wasn't showing up in my web-based email..... also, lots of emails from my inbox that I delete usually stick to my iphone for over a week after which they finally decide to DIE and not reappear again every time I would open the app................ is this just an Apple bug or is it something that can be fixed by setting some permissions inside the Terminal? thanks!!! (yes I have tried DFU restore and deleting the whole Mail folder inside the Library folder on my iphone and all of that, but nothing works...)

Is the Yahoo account an IMAP?

It uses an SMTP server. All my 4 email accounts are provided by Yahoo and use an SMTP server.....
This is really wearing me out.... There is a setting for deleted e-mails to be removed never, after one day, after one week or so....... I would like my e-mails to be deleted when I delete them, like, instantly..... Is there a way I could get that to work? Thanks!

smtp is the mail gateway that process sending + receiving mail.
Volkspost asked if you are using IMAP. Let me explain a bit. When you are checking/retrieving email remotely, there are 2 methods. They are POP or IMAP. POP allows you to download mail to your device & at the same time allows you to leave mail on the server or delete mail on server when you are retrieving them IMAP does the same thing but E-mail clients (your iphone) using IMAP generally leave messages on the server until the user explicitly deletes them -When you delete the message on your phone, it actually delete on the server as well . In your case, I think you are using POP. Basically you are downloading emails to your phone and leave it on the server (this depends on how you setup your client and your email account). When you delete the message on your phone, it delete the info on the phone only. At your next check, some how, it thinks that the mail you already downloaded are still flagged as new on the server hence it downloads again. My suggestion is to delete all the account settings on your phone. Add them back in, and see if you have the selection of POP or IMAP. Select IMAP. Let see how that will work out for you.

well, you can tell I don't know a lot about this.....
I did what you suggested and deleted all my 4 email addresses and created them again, but, during the process of creation I have no way of choosing between the two mail modes you mention. I looked into my Yahoo web-base mail accounts, and the Pop and forwarding thing is only if I pay for Yahoo Mail Plus which I am not doing. I have never synced my mail with outlook or anything else, I always just use it on the web or on the iphone. The interesting thing regarding this issue is that if I delete something from the iPhone is does delete from the web-based email inbox, but, I have had it reappearing back even in my WEB based e-mail after the iPhone would connect to the internet, which means it didn't really delete from my iphone and so it synced it back to the server........ This behaviour occurs wether I set any of the mail accounts to delete messages after one day or after a week........ More so, SpotlightBright can sometimes see the deleted emails if I search for them even though they don't show up in the mail app...... This is just all so crazy.... I should rename this thread if I could to UNDEAD EMAILS......... )))))so, is there anything I could do about this or I just have to wait until Apple will do something about it? cause on google, lots of other ppl are experiencing the same problem........... Thanks for your help guys!!!

maybe this will help
try deleting the yahoo account on your mail (setting>> Mail,Contacts,Calendars) by swipping horizontally then click Delete. Then click Add Account , Choose yahoo and fill up again the info. It will re-load again your mail. Check if this fix your problem. Last edited by ako0o_ba; 10-11-2009 at 08:14 AM. |
