My friend stupidly upgraded to 3.1 via iTunes and locked his 3G. I told him I'd take it home and try to jailbreak using the latest links on the dev team's site. It seems I have jailbroke AND unlocked his phone after 5 or 6 tries!? I have know idea what version of the os was on his phone before he screwed it up but now it's 3.1(7C144) modem firmware 05.11.07.

Is this right? Like, am I confusing a different situation that a lot of people are in right now who are waiting for a new 3.1 crack or what's going on here?

If you have the 05.11.07 baseband there is no carrier unlock available

Only thing you can do now is jailbreak & wait for a solution.

That's the thing- I put an active Fido Sim in the iPhone when I ran the Pwnage Tool and it works as a phone now. Before that it would only let us make emergency calls. I should also say that the Fido sim card I used belonged to a third friend so when he left my place he took his card with him. I tried my Roger's sim in it and it doesn't work but it still says Fido is the carrier in 'Settings'. I'm going to have the dude who owns the phone come over with his sim and run the software the same way i did with the Fido card in it and see if it works. Currently the phone works and I can see the Cydia and Icy icons.
