Nick,
I'm getting the same error message when I try to plug in my ipod touch. The thing is I'm using Vista 64 bit. I extracted files but when I right click on the Mobile Device, there is no Compatibility tab. Any suggestions |

If all of that fails, check out this site -- it's the site that pointed me in all the right directions: Get iPod Touch/iPhone Working in Windows 7 x64 at Chris123NT’s Blog I know it says for Windows 7 x64, but the steps he provides for manually forcing an install should work. If you need a compressed copy of the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\ folder, check the comments of the aforementioned link, there's a rapidshare in there somewhere. Good luck! |

Just wanted to say that your solution fixed my problem!!
Support is always spotty when a new OS is released, but it's surprising that Apple hasn't addressed this issue by now, considering how long Win 7 was in beta. Either way, I'm now happily connected to iTunes and doing a full backup - thanks!! |

Windows Vista Ultimate 64 – Running iTunes v9 with iPhone 3gs -
My iPhone 3gs stopped synching after the recent iTunes upgrade was foisted on me. When I plugged it into the USB port I got 3 rapid bass string sounds in succession. Not the usual device connected {lower} Dar {upper} Dum – anyway I digress. Tried everything – system restore, latest Vista patches (that’s another story) Searched the web high and low for around 2 days - no avail till I found this page. Did what you said – opened up “iTunes64Setup.exe” with WinRAR (I really must register it) extracted “AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi” ran it – ta da! Its working again. As well as my iPod – which curiously enough never stopped working. Prompted to authorise iTunes again – then to be told that the computer was already authorised Then told yet again the apps that I have just purchase are not authorised – I’ll deal with that after this post. I cannot thank you enough – Many, many thanks Spookspear

Hi Nick,
I'm not very talented or knowledgable about extracting, etc. Any chance you can help me? I have Windows 7 64 bit and I get the iTunes error message that you described. I started by downloading winrar, but that's as far as I got. I opened winrar and tried finding the file that you mentioned but haven't been able to find it. If you can help, great, if not I understand. apsulliv@gmail.com is my email. Thanks, Aaron |

No problem, it's pretty easy.
1) Download an archiving program like WinRAR (www.rarsoft.com) or 7zip and install. 2) Open the archiving program, and point it to the iTunes setup EXE 3) Highlight the msi listed above and click 'Extract' 4) Choose a directory to save the file and hit OK 5) After the msi extracts, close the archiving program 6) Locate the msi you just extracted and then follow the instructions above. At this point the installer supports Windows 7 but just in case you still needed the help.
