Default OpenSSH fix - Read this if you can't use SSH on your jb 3.0!

IMPORTANT
Icy contains now an updated version of OpenSSH, which should finally work with 3.0 without issues. This post is now longer necessary.

For historic purposes, the content of the post is below.

If you jailbreak your 3.0 beta2 iPhone, you can install OpenSSH, but it will work only for SCP (or SFTP: FTP over SSH). This means that you can put/get files, but you can't use the terminal.
Seems like the problem with the terminal is because of missing libraries: in fact, the BSD subsystem is not installed by that unofficial jailbreak.

So, here it is my solution.

Download this file: Download package from Sendspace

Extract it. It is the whole bundle that is installed when you pwn your 2.x phone. What we need in it is the BSD Subsystem: in particular, some libraries not installed by the new jailbreak.
(for those wondering where it came from... It's just a package extracted from PwnageTool)

Just copy all the files inside the usr/lib folder into your phone (using SFTP, for example Cyberduck or Filezilla) in /usr/lib

That package contains everything; however, you might need just libraries (install other binaries only if you need them - and if you know what you are doing!).

That should be enough to use OpenSSH!

PS: this method has been tested by a couple of users and they both reported it worked. however, I can't guarantee it's perfect, and I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY at all. as always, use at your own risk.

EDIT
Some users reported crash when copying all libraries. Maybe this is not 100% safe...
My suggestion is to copy JUST needed libraries, and never overwrite existing files.
Make sure you know what you are doing before copying any file!!!

Do you want us to replace existing files or not?

Btw in that archive you posted there is no /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib so I don't see how this is going to fix the problem.

in response to: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/f201...htm#post402465

uhm... the error the other user reported was different. That library should be already bundled with the firmware: I can find it in the SDK inside my Mac, so... Try copying that from the SDK (sorry, I can't give you mine: the package above was free software, but this library is under NDA)

the libSystem.B.dylib is already on the filesystem. its missing symbols because of a different version being expected. just use "ssh root@iphone bash" to connect to the phone. you will get a shell with no prompt. should be no problem. if it is a problem you should not be connecting to the phone via ssh anyways :-))

Is Openssh supposed to be working using WinSCP? I'm able to log on to the phone but I get errors after that and nothing shows up in the browser

I tried copying the contents of the /usr/lib directory that you provided to my iPhone and experienced the exact same thing as Hedgehog.

My phone crashed within 10 seconds of the completion of the upload, after which point it remained at the Apple Boot Logo.

I left the phone at the boot logo over night to see if it would ever manage to recover on it's own only to find myself greeted with a scorching hot iPhone hung at boot!

I have since restored and am again jailbroken, ready for another test.

so maybe not all libraries have to be put...

well, let's say this is just for expert users at the moment at least, until they upgrade the official bsd subsystem.
