no issues with syncing here.
2G 3.0 b2, unofficial jb

this jb does not contain the mobile substrate, so some apps are not installable

one thing to try is to restore to 3.0beta2 and to re-jailbreak, but do NOT use quickpwn's activation; just use it to JB and let iTunes do the activating.

Sorry, I have tried searching for the answer to this, but to no avail: quickpwn will JB&activate, yeah? I have a legally unlocked 3g iphone (from Italy) - would the unlock still function after the update?

If it's legally unlocked (I assume you mean factory unlocked), then yes, the unlock will still function after the update.

is there someway around the purple screen?
i have a 1st gen iphone that was unlocked and activated. all worked fine on the first beta but now 1 have a purple screen. my uid is registered.

please help

I don't have a dev account. I used the unofficial 3.0 jailbreak + activate on my 3g iPhone. It worked except I can't make calls or txt(no network). Any way around this? If I don't activate I hit the usual "You are not a dev" message in iTunes. With activate I get a working iPhone with no network.

How do I manually install everything cydia needs to run? The only apps that seem to run are Icy and Winterboard (winterboard opens but does not apply any themes, the other apps simply crash apon opening) and OpenSSH works pefectly (execpt apt-get does not work in putty)

EDIT: I may have found my problem. The sources folder is empty. Now everything should install correctly

Hrm, I wouldn't count on a lot of old apps working on 3.0. OpenSSH seems to freeze the phone during bootup, which required a restore. Winterboard simply cannot reload spring board and will also freeze you at reboot.

Jailbreak is nice, but many apps are no longer working and may trash your OS.

I can login but after that i get some strange error.
