Exclamation type-mask (Number) -2

what does this string in the carrier.plist under the "apns" dictionary?

i have two items in the "apns" Array one for the internetconnection and the other for MMS settings.

When i set this string to the MMS apn, --> mms is working.
When i set this string to the Internetconnection apn, --> tethering is working.

And now the Problem, when i set this string to both apns (itmen1 for internet and item2 for MMS) only tethering is working. Why?
How can i configurate the carrier.plist that both (MMS and tethering) is working?

please help me
thanxs

Carriers usually set different data services for Internet connectivity (EDGE/3G) and MMS. If you are creating these 2 APNs using same APN name, much probably you will run into a duplication issue. Suggest you search on the internet (tip: SwirlySpace) to find out proper MMS settings for your carrier, and put back previous settings for Internet connectivity, adding on it the type-mask=-2.

here i'm posting a screenshot of my original carrier.plist

here a screenshot of the working mms carrier.plist

here a screenshot of the working tethering carrier.plist

and here a combined carrier.plist from the both above (mms and tethering)
but only tethering works.
any ideas?

Sounds like the logic used to enable MMS is:

Find the APN with type-mask=-2 and use it for MMS.

If there is a single type-mask=2 on the second APN, it will work cause it's the right APN for MMS.

If there are type-mask=-2 on both APNs, then it will pick the first, that is the wrong APN for MMS and will not work.

It's seems that there is something that we are missing here.
Can you do some testing? It's kinda long but can be very helpful to determine the real meaning of type-mask.

The rationale for the test that my guess there is more to type-mask than "-2".

The test consist in trying, for both the working tethering and MMS bundles, the following type-mast settings: 4,3,2,1,0,-1,-2,-3,-4. Why "4"? Because it seems that there should be up to 4 different APNs: iPhone-Data, VVM, MMS and tethering, and somehow type-mask is the key for selecting the proper one.

-2 is the correct value indeed.

You mean that using -1 will render the phone "unusable" to a point that only a restore will work? Please give more details.

i have set -1 at the first apn (internet apn) and after uploding the ipcc file i had a loading spin wheel in the midle of the screen thats never end.
The same loading wheel comes at a restart. The only way out was recoverymode and restore :-)

when i have time i will test the other configs (with -3 and -4) and give you a feedback.

Did you try to restart the phone without the sim card (the wrong settings shouldn't be loaded) and then update with the working ipcc file?

MMS works by connecting to a proxy server to get your media. That uses your internet to do that. So you can only use one at a time. If your tethering, then your mms is off until you stop tethering.
