Before, I would hang at "Waiting for boot volume with UUID blah blah blah".
I think once I got stuck at a grey screen with an apple logo. NOW, after trying to use a retail install with Chameleon on an 8GB SD card (didn't work: saw splash screen and then stuck with spinning beach ball), the iDeneb v1.3 DVD is THRASHING it's life out. I'm currently at: "CODE SIGNING.." Never mind. Things appear to be progressing now so I'll keep at it and follow his instructions and see what happens. I have the stock Atheros chip so of course wireless won't work. But if I can follow the instructions and get a boot, I'll happily grab a Dell 1510 off ebay. I'll post an update soon. Things do indeed appear to be progressing! I'm gonna pick a language!!! I guess it was just a matter of finally getting the stupid blank drive to a point that iDeneb was happy to see it as a target. |

But...
I appear to be stuck in the loop at the point of "Do not transfer my information now" so I have to find the solution to that. The next step is "Press any key for install options" after restart. Not sure if I was already supposed to do that or I need to get past this loop first. Yeah, OK, found it. Instructions aren't clear to IMMEDIATELY press any key before darwin starts so you can run the commands. I searched this forum, found the instructions and ran them...AFTER, of course, having to hard reboot by pressing the power button until it shut off. Now I'm logging in and will complete setup. UPDATE: DAMNIT! I've copied everything over and have launched the OSx86 Tools Utility but when I click on Install Kexts, I get an Applescript error: "An error of type - 10810 has occurred. (-10810)" UPDATE: Coulda been because I was still logged in as root. I've created a user and rebooted so maybe now it'll work. Yeah, that's better. So much for that step being optional. I gotta re-write those instructions so they account for these kinds of things. I'll have to ask wingzero if that's ok. Last edited by calibre97; 08-22-2009 at 08:08 AM. |

So I'm at the Graphics/Displays upgrade install point, after rebooting from the DST Patcher step (which, by the way, is off because I had the VoodooPS2Controller package in the Installer Packages directory, but there was no MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.7.pkg file. Instead, there was onyx.dmg. Huh?
EDIT: I'm re-reading through the forum, after successfully getting a working install. I forgot that a .pkg file is just a container. wingzero had included the entire combo update (~700MB) and then took it out (smart man). That's all. I've since followed the instructions (see mine later on) and just used my own download of the combo update from Apple. Silly me. So now I've clicked Install Kexts and have selected all BUT GMA950 (listed first), and am trying to authenticate to do the install. Unfortunately, when I tab to Password, the field just fills up like a key is stuck or something. It doesn't happen in the Name field, but always in the password field. I can't get through this step to reinstall the kexts. So, now what? Last edited by calibre97; 08-25-2009 at 08:52 PM. |

I can't install anything now. I can't run OSX86Tools to install a different trackpad kext (this all started to happen after I installed the pkg from the Essentials Installer Packages). I can't even change the password to nothing because the Old Password field starts filling in before I can put in my password to change it to no password.
I guess I'll have to try creating a new Admin user with no password so I can finish installing the kexts and replace that VoodooPS2 kext. I can't even type my password in text edit to copy and paste it. Soon as I type it and try to select it, it disappears. Great. Just great. I can't even add a new user because I have to authenticate to unlock Accounts. What the heck happened? What is wrong with that VoodooPS2Controller-0.98-installer.pkg? Are there any other KEXT installers I might be able to run, or would it even matter because any install of a kext will require authentication and now I can't? Hang on, I think I figured out a way. I have to CAREFULLY tap each letter and then backspace over whatever it's filling in and then quickly hit Enter when I've entered the last character and before it fills in another character. I got Onyx installed doing this. Now to change my password to something simple until I get the rest of the extensions installed. Last edited by calibre97; 08-22-2009 at 04:43 PM. |

I have a VoodooPS2Trackpad.kext.zip file I downloaded from either this forum, or InsanelyMac, but when I double click it, it creates VoodooPS2Trackpad.kext.zip.cpgz. If I double click THAT, I get a dupe with a 2 of the .zip file. Now I don't think I can trust it.
I still have major issues with the trackpad jumping all over the place, and the password field issue, and for that matter the problem with being able to select any text in ANY field or Text Edit or the like. Anyone got a different trackpad extension I can try? Or for that matter, since this is the step where it happened, the 10.5.7 package mentioned in the same set of instructions that include the trackpad? Wing? Mr. Wingzero? Any help? |

For some reason the BIOS keeps reverting to other settings. I checked on a hunch and sure enough, Legacy was still enabled as was sleep and charge. I changed those (leaving AHCI or however it's spelled on Compatibility mode) and now that i'm booted up and logged in, it's not doing it anymore.
So that's the solution. Make sure Legacy USB is disabled and sleep and charge is disabled. Now to plug the Ethernet in and see if updates work. Yeah, what could go wrong?

Am I clear to run the 10.5.7 combo update when I didn't install a 10.5.7 update package?
Has anyone else used Wingzero's latest (in this thread) Essentials Package that had onyx but no 10.5.7 update package and then installed Apple's 10.5.7 combo update? I think I'll hold off on updates until there's some activity on this thread (where'd everyone go?) in case things go awry. For now, I'll try plugging into the Airport Base Station to see if Time Machine works. The Dell 1510 is on its way (eBay, $17.95 from a Buy it Now auction, free shipping) so wireless should be good to go soon. In case I haven't said it yet, GREAT FREAKIN' JOB WINGZERO and everyone else who's participated in this forum!!! I don't know why, but having OS X on this little beauty is just too freaking cool. |
