You can also try to install/enable the OSX trackpad preferences. The solution is a few pages back in this thread.

Like cannontrane, I'm trying to do a vanilla install. I'm aware you don't have 100% working, but we are not looking for perfection. Just the methodology.

Please, please help us by letting us know what you did? I'm getting stuck most of the way through the boot after install. For whatever reason, the machine boots from the retail DVD (on USB) fine, yet can't do so from the installed drive, so obviously enough of the correct drivers are present on the install DVD, but not on the final install...

So, on a hunch, I tried a method I used to set up a USB stick that boots a Dell Mini9, and sure enough, it boots the NB205 as well. So I used a Kingston 64GB SATA SSD connected to a USB adapter, installed OSX from a working Mac, ran the DellEFI program after reboot, installed 10.5.7 combo update, ran the DellEFI again, and everything is jake when I installed this drive in the NB205. No need for iDeneb, etc.

I will gladly post a simple writeup, but have a couple questions of successful iDeneb users first.

Using the DellEFI method, I have most everything working, except for specific things to this Toshiba. Sound doesn't work yet, for one. And I have to test sleep. And battery is spotty (goes from X, to having a battery, to X, etc.)

So, if someone can point me to which kexts I need for sound and battery fix, I'd appreciate it. Using 10.5.7.

And sleep doesn't work yet, either. Basically, it goes to sleep but immediately wakes up. Also, if there is an SD card installed, you get a device warning about unplugging it without ejecting it, then the card will remount relatively quickly.

And the trackpad driver is not ideal, as the Toshiba driver would be preferred.

But fixing those issues with the right drivers should be simple enough, since DellEFI obviously installs Dell specific Kexts.

I have sleep working using the USB and Sleep kexts from the essentials pack.

I'm running 10.5.8, and battery shows percentage but not time. In 10.5.7, it would show time on and off, and also switch to X, then back to time. Haven't tried the slim battery app yet. And just now, battery went from 19% to 100%.

Used the audio kext provided in the Essentials pack and I'm getting stuttering during playback, lots of trouble using it. All the mixes, etc. in the control panel are confusing/conflicting, unless I need to remove a different kext to make it work right?

I know it's not the machine, because the same songs that are stuttering in iTunes played back internally don't stutter when played back using remote speakers on my Airport Express.

Time Machine says no internal network after it lets me select the Time Capsule, despite both Ethernet and Broadcom Wifi cards working and it seein the Time Capsule.

Finally, when I sleep, seems that the computer dumps connections to the USB ports, so when I wake up, it reconnects them. OSX doesn't like that, so if there is an SD card in the slot (USB based slot, of course), it warns of improper removal, then remounts the card. But it's not great to do that, as I've had an SD card lose data from taking it out during sleep before.

If I can get a little help with which kexts I might need to add/remove to fix those issues, I'm golden. I'll write a full instruction page.

Honestly, it's quite simple though. Requires another Mac and a way to attach the NB205's HD to that Mac (like a USB adapter, an external SATA enclosure, a SATA sled like the Newer 4-in-1, etc.). Then you just Partition the drive GUID/HFS+, use your retail Leopard disk (or your disk that came with your Mac), restart the Mac using that new install and do all the updates you want, and then run the DellEFI 1.2a5 program, with the proper settings which I will explain. Once that's done, you can put the drive back in the NB205 and it will boot, and you can use OSx86 to place the few specific kexts you need (which is what I'm trying to determine now). But even without those kexts, keyboard, trackpad, wifi (broadcom) etc. work, so it's a matter of the little things that need fixing (sleep, sound, time machine).

Until we get automatic switching of sound outputs working, this little freeware app does a nice job. It puts an icon in the menu bar allowing you to switch outputs, adjust the volume of them individually, and also set where system sounds come out, and keep that volume at a different level.

I switched to a different HDA driver and it's much more stable, with only occasional stuttering. It's livable. The original version I used was the one from the essentials package, and it was problematic.

I've also noticed that the Toshiba is not ground isolated from it's power supply very well. A hum is introduced into the headphones when the power cord is plugged in, and it even gets introduced into the output of an old USB audio device I have (9 year old MacAlly iVoice, which still works natively, BTW).

Have you tried to disable the legacy USB support yet? If not, wonder if that would also solve the SD card slot problem.

Yes, it's disabled. basically, when going to sleep, the OS dumps the USB port connections. To the OS, it's as if i pulled out the USB card or USB thumb drive. Then on wake, it reconnects them.

This is not what should happen.

I might try turning the keyboard wake on. It's PS2, but maybe the act of keeping it powered will keep the USBs talking. Might also try the USB Power feature, see if that makes a difference.

Yeah disable USB Sleep and Charge if you havnt yet.
