I noticed that Boot Camp Assistant was missing from the Utilities folder. I tried copying it over from another computer, but then I ended up with this message:

"Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used.
You must update your computer's Boot ROM firmware before using this assistant."

Any ideas? I need to get Windows XP back on this netbook ASAP.

Default HDD Upgrade

My Replacement Hard Drive arrived today after a weeks wait (super saver delivery!).

Install was very easy

1. Remove back panel using torx 6 driver
2. Slide existing hard drive to the rear of the machine (no latches to worry about just be firm)
3. Remove caddy from old drive and place onto new one.
4. Replace drive and caddy and slide towards front of machine (may need a bit of a jiggle to align plugs ok)
5. Replace rear panel.

Very easy took less than 10 minutes, now got 3 x 150GB partitions to fill...

NOTE: The drive is obviously a standard SATA 2.5" but beware that some drives are deeper than 9.5mm deep, these will not fit in, the drive must be 9.5mm deep or less.

The drive I bought was a:
Western Digital 500GB 2.5" Hard Drive SATAII 5400rpm 8MB Cache - Scorpio Blue.

Hope that helps someone...

cheers

An update on the retail vanilla install.

Most of the issues are now solved, sleep/wake from Lid close/open now working. 2 finger scroll working nicely.

Only remaining issues are intermittent battery status which seems common on any install, and mouse issue after wake.
I also plan on testing a full hibernate option which will allow deep sleep then I'll post full instructions.

The install can be accomplished via a USB stick do no DVD drive needed and you'll end up with a close to vanilla as possible NB205 that is easily upgradable.

When installing voodooPS2Trackpad I didnt select the Trackpad option and didnt suffer the super speedy scrolling, last time when I did select it I got the same problem so this may be a solution. But I dont have multi-touch, swings and roundabouts I guess.

Has anyone got a definitive solution to the wake up with no mouse issue?.

Hey all,

I just finished up the first install; i did a triple boot of OSX, WinXP and Linux (ubuntu). I used a USB stick to install, prepared everything from my XP machine.
I'm using Grub to choose between the OS'es.

The OSX install was pretty easy (great guide, wingzero!) and it seems to run fine. I didn't install the 10.5.7 update yet since i first wanted to see if i could get the 3 OS'es to work together.
Going to order a Dell 1510 and a 2GB mem chip later this week to round things up; for now I'm using the ethernet connection.

@BJS: Glad the guide helped out. Looks like everything will work out once you get your half mini wifi chip. Just a side note: When you install your wifi and get it working, make sure you don't disable it and shutdown/restart your netbook. For some reason, and it doesn't do it all the time, when you restart, it will be disabled forever and you have to re-install everything. I don't know if anyone else experienced this or have a solution but, it has happened to me about three times when I was testing it. I don't mind re-installing since I have an external HD that's patched for a full install (quick method). So yeah, just a friendly side note to consider.

Wingzero thanks for the great guide. I have read the whole thread and it seems you have it all covered. I currently have an Aspire One which had a ZIF HDD added in place of the stock SSD but that broke on my trip to Rome for the champions league final in May. Since then I have been running OS X from an external HDD. My AAO runs OS X perfectly except for sleep. Has full QE/CI, Ethernet, swapped wifi for a Dell 1390, everything basically. But no sleep has been a constant bug. I'm also a mod over at aspireoneuser.com and I am resident in the OS X section and have been since it started so I have seen all the developments...
And... since I am getting paid thursday I thought I would get a nice new laptop instead of my current contraption. And a look around led me to the NB200. My first thought was does OS X work on it. And lo and behold, I stumbled upon your great guide.
So I think I'm going to buy mine come Thursday
A few small questions,
1. Does sleep work for you on closing the lid and does it reactivate on opening the lid?
2. Does audio automatically switch to headphones if you plug them in? If not, as I think it doesn't based on my reading, have you tried using a HDAenabler.kext and the stock AppleHDA.kext This is what we use on our AAO's and it gives autoswitch wheras VoodooHDA does not. Alternatively you can use soundsource, which I use on my Dell 530 hackintosh desktop as autoswitch doesn't work on that.
3. Do the indicator lights on the front work with OS X?

Also, if you do happen to disable the wifi and it wont turn back on, you can usually boot an installer disc and enable it from there. I had the very same problem with my AAO in times gone by and I was always reinstalling before I worked this out. Also, if you install teh compatible card in the machine before you reformat xp and install OS X, it must be enabled or OS X won't recognise it.
Finally, I think I might try out a bit of Snow Leopard and make a guide, but till have to be a huge amount of work to beat this immense guide you have made. All I can say is thanks in advance. And I suggest a donation button in your sig, I'm sure everyone would be able to donate a few pennies and every little helps for those addons like bluetooth and Dell 1510's...
Rory

Thanks a lot for the work, guys.

I've got 2 problems with mine, but in general it works pretty darn well. Battery indicator works, sleeps and wakes up, and generally works pretty well. I installed using the steps on page 4, and suplemented with the kexts listed (including the touchpad one).

I still don't have the touchpad showing up in the preferences, and get errors when I go into the VoodooPS2 pane.

I also wonder if anyone has a keyboard kext that allows for the tilde and front single quote instead of the ± and §. Given the use of the tilde in unix and the single quote in changing windows in firefox, that would make a huge difference for me. If anyone can point me in the direction of a tutorial, I'd be glad to make that my contribution to the cause.

Another tip form aspireoneuser.com Go to the site of Logitech, then download something called "Logitech Control Center pour Macintosh® OS X". To get to that, pretend you have a Logitech product for MAC, like the Wave Keyboard, for example.
Once you install it, reboot, then go to System Preferences, select International, Input Menu, and then select the Logitech model for your keyboard language. In my case, I use "Logitech U.K. Intl". taken from Acer Aspire One User Forum • View topic - Keyboard Layout Issue
