Exclamation [Official] Preparing for 10.5.6 update.

Original post @ http://netkas.org/?p=78

Warning, this information is only for users who can use vanila kernel.

Next macosx update, 10.5.6, will require you to do few things before installing it.

First, you need to install pc evi v9 or any other boot-132 with mackerintel’s dsdt patcher.

if you had chameleon or etc, and have file named “boot” in root of your active partition, then just replace it with v9 or other bootloader.

second, very important, you need to generate fixed dsdt and place it to root of your osx partition (of the osx you will update).

TO do it use DSDT patcher from fassl http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.p...3&st=0&start=0 .

if all went fine, then your 10.5.5 osx should be working still.

So now you can safely update to 10.5.6 , even no need to remove appleintelcpupowermanagement.ket durring installing, if dsdt patcher made it’s job good.

P.S. its better to remove appleintelcpu…kext after update is done, because it will heatup ur cpu

P.S.S. if you use /Extra mkext and placed dsmos/appledecrypt/etc there, then you dont need to edit any scripts after update is done and before reboot, so this update will go like on macs, if u made all preparations.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: after fixing dsdt and before installing 10.5.6, you HAVE to install either PM disabler or Appleintelcpupowermanagement.kext from 10.5.5 here

otherwise u will have freeze durring installation, because new appleintelcpu… will get loaded, and this new kext isnt compatiblw with 10.5.5.

Default updated 10.5.6 on intel

I updated to 10.5.6 . download update from apple.com, saved then installed the same as 10.5.5. delete intelcpupowermanagement.kext at the start of the install at 5% when it pops up but before 20%. must be in system/library at verify and start of install, shift to extensions ktext at 5%. Plan before you do this, You only have about 10 seconds. If you aren't quick your dead. I removed password to give me more time. This is only way that work for me, but i'm not MAC smart.

If you have windows with macdrive installed you can trash intelcpumanagment.ktext, in windows exployer go to system/extensions and delete the ktext. then restart mac -v -f you should be good.

Okay, without knowing this, I ran the system updater and grabbed the 10.5.6 update without this installer. I had originally installed iATKOS v1.0i. Now I cannot load Mac OSx86 (-v shows about 6 lines then restarts the machine). I don't have a problem reinstalling everything with iATKOS v5i, but is there anything I can do without actually getting into OSx86 to fix the problem? I have dual-boot set up with Vista/Ubuntu/Win7, so if there is anything I can do from any of those systems, they are working. The OSx86 partition is HFS+ w/ Journalling if that makes any difference.

I've not set too much stuff up in my current install (Mono/MonoDevelop/SVN), so it would not be much for me to start over in any case.

I've tried numerous times to upgrade my iATKOS v5i 10.5.5 system to 10.5.6 (and even installed iDeneb v4 10.5.6) however I always have issues with the computer not shutting down properly.

I have an HP Pavilion Elite m9180f running mod bios 5.27 (and also tried 5.17 and experienced same issue with shutdown)

I found a helpful guide for upgrading to 10.5.6, however it did not help me with my shutdown issue unfortunately -> http://gtdmarc.blogspot.com/2009/02/...5-to-1056.html

I also experienced issues with the Firewire but managed to get it working by disabling AppleHPET.kext (using an modified version of Disabler.kext)

I think the shutdown problem is an issue when installing the AppleHDA.kext but I've tried a million different fixes and versions and nothing seems to help. I did manage to get the shutdown working eventually, but then when I installed the sleepfix for it, then the shutdown issue returns. Also I believe the nvinstaller messes up shutdown as well.

It's rather frustrating, and I've given up for now and return to 10.5.5 -- however I'd love to get 10.5.6 running perfectly so I can install iLife and play around with Garageband '09.

I've seen a number of users that are also using HP Pavilion Elites and running 10.5.6, so can I ask how you installed it (and if you experienced similar problems, especially with shut down?)

Thanks!!

UPDATE: YES! I finally got it working great! My shutdown issue apparently had something to do with the AppleHPET.kext file, which I replaced using from my 10.5.5 extensions (backup) and now shutdown and restart are no longer an issue -- and plus the Firewire is working again, which is the reason I replaced this file in the first place (having it fix my shutdown issue was an added perk!)

I am no longer using the Disabler.kext as a result of this as well....

Thanks again for everyone's help! Hope this will aid others experiencing the same issue.

I desire to make my main desktop a 3 way operating system - win 7, snow leopard, and linux - yet I've never done any of this stuff, barely know what a partition is. How do I start the long journey of educating myself on how to do this stuff. I read this post and every other word looks like Greek. Is there a beginner's tutorial out there? Thanks!
