Exclamation [PwnageTool] make sure you use the correct firmware!

when choosing the firmware for the pawnge tool make sure that it is iPod touch firmware and not iPhone. If you use iphone firmware on a iPod touch or vice verse needless to say your device will not work properly. Make sure to pay attention to what firmware you use as you will have to put your iPod touch or iPhone in to dfu mode and restore to regular firmware in order to get your iPod touch or iPhone to work proplery again.....

hmm yeah its annoying how this can happen i guess its coz iBoot no longer checks to see if this is one corresponding to the device or not...

as long as you are pwned you should be able to restore back to the real ipod one. but the trick is getting into DFU mode. try getting into DFU, but instead of starting with ipod on, leave it off.

  • Open up iTunes and connect the usb cable from the iPod to computer.
  • With iPod off (i presume it is because it is not able to turn on) hold down the power+home buttons for 10 seconds.
  • After those 10 seconds, release the power button and keep holding the home button.
  • After a few seconds (it can vary, i would wait for about 20 seconds max and then try again) iTunes should detect your iPod and panic about recovery mode. then download the correct, unpwned ipod 1.1.4 ipsw. i say unpwned because it would be good to just have a nice fresh start.

This may not work... but its good to give everything a try

hope this helps

Thumbs down

It happens because people don't pay attention. Its 100% user error. If you make sure your firmware comes from a trusted source and it goes with your device then you should be ok. Not to sound indiffrent or any thing, but a few seconds to check could save you hours or however long it takes to solve the problem....

Hi, I really wish I would have read this thread before I tried updating to 2.0. Anyways, installed the iphone firmware 1.1.4 on my ipod touch, and when i connect it to my PC and perform the manual DFU mode it shows my iPod Touch to be an iPhone. This is obviuously a serious error since it tries to download iPhone firmware when I click restore, and when I tried to manually install ipod touch firmware 2.0 it didn't work either shift+restore. How do I fix it?
