Like most of you I have been very frustrated with the ZiPhone bug which does NOT allow 16GB (not sure about 32GB) iPod Touchs to jailbreak 1.1.4
we've all seen the "BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0" error and there is even a thread here that talks about it: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30895 bottom line, ZiPhone does NOT work with the 16GB iPod Touch... for now. But I have just figured out how to get 1.1.4 jailbreak to work on my 16GB Touch and wanted to share with everyone how to do it. (I've been at this for the last 2 days but it has paid off) 1. You MUST downgrade to firmware 1.1.1 (just download the images of all the firmware files 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, and 1.1.4 off the internet for future use). Using iTunes i clicked on RESTORE holding the SWIFT key (yes I'm running Windows XP Pro) 2. Once the iPod Touch is back to running 1.1.1 I went to jailbreakme.com and installed the Installer (I think we've all done this at some point). TURN OFF AUTO-LOCK!!!!! (this is VERY VERY important, its in the SETTINGS, GENERAL section) 3. Here is what I installed: ***a. Install "Community Sources" ***b. Install BSD Subsystem 2.1 ***c. Install BSD Subsystem 2.0 termfix ***d. Install “OktoPrep” which preps your iPod Touch for firmware 1.1.2 4. Go to iTunes and UPGRADE (NOT RESTORE) using the shift key again to 1.1.2 5. This would be a good time to go on the internet and get the 1.1.2-jailbreak.zip file you will need this next. (google it) ( make sure you still have these installed ) ***a. "Community Sources" ***b. "BSD Subsystem 2.1" ***c. "BSD Subsystem 2.0 termfix" 6. Turn off iTunes (be sure it is not running in the task manager) Unzip the 1.1.2-jailbreak.zip file and (FIRST MAKE SURE AUTO-LOCK IS TURNED OFF ON THE IPOD TOUCH) then run "windows.bat" on your 1.1.2 Touch. It should find it and start the process... I highly recommend you just leave it alone and have it plugged into the USB port for power (the last thing you want is to run out of power during this process). 7. Once this is done (it will reboot a couple of times so be sure to let it finish) you are now running 1.1.2 Jailbreak. Now go back to the installer icon (which will now reappear on the main menu indicating the jailbreak worked). go to SOURCES and EDIT, then ADD. type in "http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml" this case sensitive so MAKE SURE IT IS SPELLED CORRECTLY. Let the sources refresh. 8. I went out of Installer and let the system refresh too, then went back inside Installer. Now go to INSTALL and find BSD subsystem (easiest is to find it in ALL PACKAGES) make sure to install it. (there may be 2 BSD packages, just install them both if it lets you) 9. Go back to the main list and look for MOBILE JAILBREAK. This would have been there before (if you added the ipodmaster.com source correctly) but the actual app errors out "ERROR, Main script execution failded!" unless you install the BSD Subsystem FIRST. (AGAIN, DOUBLE CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT AUTO-LOCK IS STILL OFF) If you do this right, when you execute the 1.1.2-1.1.4 jailbreak in the MOBILE JAILBREAK section this will start without any errors. This takes a WHILE... at least 20 minutes. I highly suggest not running this off battery as there is a very good chance you will run out of power. I kept mine pugged into my USB port (ITUNES STAYS OFF). During the whole process... it is 100% AUTOMATIC so when it is done it will simply restart and THATS IT!!! You will see that you are now running 1.1.4 Jailbreak, with all the APPS (mail, stocks, weather, etc)... :-) ! Hope this works for everyone else too... enjoy!!!

Fixed a Few errors in his thread below:
"your ipod "ipod" could not be restored an unknown error has occured (1)"? Use this tutorial: http://rupertgee.wordpress.com/2008/...111-downgrade/ (I don't know if you guys like linking to other sites its just a really annoying error). OktoPrep isn't on the list of installable apps? http://www.z-bots.com/blog/ WARNING: SHIFT CLICK the Update BUTTON to do manual updates I feel he didn't describe it that well. I guess it was a typo (or few ;-))
Try 'http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml' instead, it seems to better work (at least I can see the "Mobile Jailbreak" section (pay attention to the full domain and the 's' in 'files')). |

I am stuck between steps 6 & 7. I successfully get to the point where I run the 1.1.2 jailbreak, but then get stuck. The jailbreak software says it's done and the touch will reboot a few times, but that never happens. Itunes pops back up and the touch is just stuck at the screen with the data cable and the arrow pointing to the itunes icon and stays there.
I have itunes OFF and set to not start when I connect the ipod, but it still pops up at the end of the process. I tried a few times and get the same result. Anyone have this issue as well? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

QUICK UPDATE RUNNING 1.1.4
I have already noticed some issues running 1.1.4 on my Touch. After installing several applications the Installer seems to keep erroring out. Usually one of two happens: 1. ERROR EXECUTING SCRIPT (or something like that) 2. I get kicked out of Installer as the app is being installed and put back to the main screen (as if the Installer crashed). There are a few possibilities why this happens. a. The Installer needs to be updated to work correctly with 1.1.4 (most likely reason) b. something went wrong during the 1.1.4 jailbreak process c. Many applications will need to be updated to work with 1.1.4 (another likely possibility) I will keep testing it out and see if I can find out more about what happens, also I might go back to using 1.1.3 for now as well... I haven't decided but if I can't install applications then 1.1.4 is pretty much useless for me.

Looks like I might have been right about 1.1.4 breaking the apps (and installer) hope there are updates soon:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=443904 might be time to go back to 1.1.3 now.

Thanks for the reply.....here are the details of the issue:
-I'm positive Oktoprep is there and installed because I tried it one time without it and was unable to run the 1.1.2 jailbreak at all and get a message saying that I need it, so I'm sure it was there the numerous times I got to the point I did. -Here's exactly what happens and where: I successfully install Oktoprep I successfully UPGRADE to 1.1.2 Successfully RUN the 1.1.2 jailbreak........then It gets to the point where it's sending the commands to reboot the ipod. Then it tells me it's complete and that my Ipod will reboot a few times, yet it never does. It just hangs on the recovery mode screen(cable pointing to itunes). It never reboots even one time and just get's stuck there. I've left it connected for a long time, disconnected it, tried turning it on and off and every other possible thing but this is the sticking point. (the part that I mentioned in the original post about itunes popping up at the end of the jailbreak was my fault, I still had the itunes helper running the first time I ran it which is why). Like you suggested, it looks like the only way to get past this point to even see what state the iPod is in is to use iBrikr or ZiPhone to get it out of recovery mode. I was going to try it but it was late and I gave up at that point. Now there's one more thing which I think is relevant.......... ....all of this was done on my MAC, NOT my Windows machine. I'm obviously not running the windows.bat file, but the .jar file instead, which is how the 1.1.2 jailbreak is run in osx. From what I read, it's supposed to work fine and this is how the 1.1.2 jailbreak is done on a MAC. I'm assuming though, that since I'm not running it exactly as you have (on a Windows machine) we can't be sure. When I get home tonight I will try it on my Windows machine and post the results, I just hope this is the reason for my issue. Also, based on your last post and presuming I can get past this issue, I shoud only go to 1.1.3. Thanks again for the help. |
