Im using a 2.2.1 iPhone 3g with bb 2.28 and this is my story (Law and Order Style )

I was using the Universal SIM unlock for quite a time, even after yellowsn0w came out. However, I could use 3G in my iPhone. Today, I decided to upgrade my baseband to 2.28 (I was on 2.11 to use the Universal SIM). So, I followed the steps written in this thread and I successfully upgraded my baseband to 2.28

As for yellowsn0w, I downloaded yellowsn0w from Cydia, and I rebooted. Voila! I have a signal as soon as Springboard shows up (I hope everyone has this because from what I heard some people have a delay in the service bars showing up). Well I input my Cellular Data Network Settings (my internet settings) switched on 3G and Edge and it was working perfectly.
I can make and recieve calls with no problems, as well as send and recieve SMS.
In case there is anyone in Kuwait here, Im on VIVA, and their netowrk is awesome. Cheap rates

Yellowsn0w is just great. The iphone Dev Team Rocks!! Just don't update this badboy to 2.2.1

I am using 2.2.1, but with baseband 2.28 so yellowsno0w works

Except YellowSn0w only works with BB 2.28.00 ....
