One of my mates is going back to the UK soon with an official Movistar ES 3G, he wants me to Yellowsn0w (will work already checked he has 2.28.00) but he also wants to be able to u
se his Movistar SIM when he´s here - is there a way to do this?

In the past when I´ve Yellowsn0wed Movistar iPhones i´ve had to Pwnage an activated ipsw and then the Vodafone would work but from memory the Movistar SIM wouldn´t get any signal...

Anyone got any ideas before I start?

It should work.
I believe there is a plugin for SBSettings or bossprefs that will allow you to turn on/off yellowsn0w if you need to.
Just make sure you don't make a mistake updating 2.2.1 with 2.30.03 baseband.
Use pwnagetool to create custom firmware.

Cool will give that a try - no worries on the custom fimware - do you think activated or let the official movistar SIM activate the phone?

If the phone is running 2.2 fw then let moviestar activate the phone
Use quickpwn + fw 2.2 (NOT 2.2.1) and let it jailbreak.
download cydia and run it - your moviestar SIM should still work. If it does not, turn off yellowsn0w.
Run yellowsn0w when you use an unofficial SIM.

The most important thing is don't go near 2.2.1 fw unless you use pwnagetool.

I'm guessing the only reason you say 2.2 and not 2.2.1 is the baseband? If so its ok I've already Pwnage'd 2.2.1 so the baseband is 2.28.00, there no other reason to not use 2.2.1 is there?

If your phone is already activated and pwned you can just use YellowSn0w. If you want to use an 'approved' SIM you can't if you activate with a non approved SIM via quickpwn but, I believe you can the other way round.
