Default iPhone 3G step back with baseband

I have a iphone 3G with the latest baseband which means there is no software unlock for my Vodafone sim card. I have tried a couple of Turbo Sims and found them to be utter garbage as the signal drops off which means no more calls. If i purchased another iPhone with the old baseband and software unlocked it for my sim would I have the same problems or would it be fine.

I think you will find it very difficult to get a new iPhone 3G with the old baseband, 2.28

I have just had 3 iPhones in the last week - all of them have the latest 2.30.03 pre-installed. With the latest bootloader also.

2 options I see:

1. Buy an official unlocked iPhone from a country such as Australia (on eBay for example).
2. Wait until WWDC, Apple releases OS 3.0 and ..hopefully...Dev Team will release a new version of Yellowsn0w...

The main problem with unlocking is you will always be in the cat and mouse game.
