Default Signal Loss with yellowsn0w

Hey all,

Here's my issue:
I am currently using
iPhone 3g
fw: 2.2.1
bb: 2.28.00
carrier: T-Mobile
location: Detroit,MI USA

I have done everything (Quickpwn, yellowsn0w, etc.)and when I reboot via BossPrefs I get service for 30 secs-3min then signal goes from 5 bars down to "No Service"

I have used airplane mode, reboot method, take sim out/put back in. With each method same result...service for a short time then no service.

I have made calls and received calls during the brief times in service also sent texts and tested EDGE with Wi-Fi turned off. Everything worked but then I lose service.

I have searched high and low for any info but I only come across signal loss via SIM unlock and I have used software unlock.
I did find some posts where people had to get their iphones replaced. However I bought mine on craigslist and do not know if there is still warranty or if I can get replacement without having AT&T.

Has anyone else had this issue or know of anything at all I can do to retain service.

Thank you in advance.
Ray

Default ok...

ok so I found out my phone has been replaced previously which means I don't have a warranty anymore. It could also mean that this phone has signal issues which is why it needed to be replaced....any thoughts?

Default Update:

UPDATE:

I tried using a borrowed ATT sim from a friend and the same signal loss happened. Could an antenna replacement fix these signal issues?

iPhone 3G no signal.. sim seems fine in other phones..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Chaps, so i'm getting the 'no signal' error on my iphone 3G.

So I was on Firmware 2.1 (with the baseband that comes with that FW) and using my UK simcard with a rebelSim and was working fine last tuesday. I turn my phone off and get on a plane to Sweden.

Get off the flight and the phone works fine.. picks up the local network great etc etc etc... 5 bar reception.

Get on a little domestic flight and turn the phone off again. Turn it back on when I land and it can't get reception "no service". I fiddled around/searched the net to see if I could fix it to no avail.

So now i'm back in the UK, still no joy with 2.1 and my rebelSim so i've upgraded to FW 2.2 and used quickpwn to jailbreak the phone and yellowsn0w 9.5 to unlock the sim... but still "no service" my network provider doesn't show up in the 'about' in settings.. nothing... I get 5 flat bars (no reception) then "no service"

So here's my details:
- Vodafone UK sim (was using a rebelsim under 2.1, now not after using yellowsn0w) works fine in other phones...
- iphone 3G now with FW 2.2 in stalled through itunes, jailbroken with Quickpwn 2.2
- My baseband is the standard one that comes with FW 2.2,
- tried a bunch of the tricks... airplane mode on/off 3G on/off etc etc
- When I turn the phone on I get no reception at all, 5 flat bars then "no service"
- tried resetting the network settings

Any help at all would be appreciated, I really need my phone back . I read something about flashing the baseband.. maybe?

**UPDATE**

So as usual with tech problems... I only have myself to blame. Fixed the problem by using the yellowsn0w fix from another thread. So god knows what was wrong with it under 2.1, but now under 2.2, pwned and with yellowsn0w installed I got it to pick up reception using this method:

install mobile terminal on the iphone
type yellowsn0w -c
type yellowsn0w -r
type yellowsn0w -q
airplane mode on
airplane mode off

now picks up vodafone just fine.

hope this might help some other people.

Default try inserting the sim card to another unlocked phone

try inserting the "no service" sim card into another unlocked phone, wait for it to get a signal. Afterwards return the sim card back to the iphone. See if it will work.
I think the sim card somehow gets lost from the network after a long time of having no signal in a dead spot. For normal phones the sim can find its way back easily to the network when you go to a place with signal but with the iphone 3g it remains lost. So by inserting the "no service" sim card to another phone, it will be able to help it get in the network again.
