Hello!
I was formatting a 1 TB internal hard drive over SATA-II with "Mac OS X Extended" in Disk Utility. All things went totally normal and the drive works just normal. I did later then see in a Ubuntu Livesystem in GParted that my new formatted 1 TB hard drive was splitted in 3 different partitions: 1. EFI - 300 MB ??? (FAT) 2. DATA - with the GBs... (HFS+) 3. 'unformatted' - 170 MB So why is there a partition for the EFI, the "Extensible Firmware Interface"? Why does Mac OS X needs/installs this on a non-System hard drive? And even more why has this to be 300MB large? Why is there an unformatted block of 170MB? Is this normal for 1 TB? Can I change the size of the unformatted block? Whats the difference between all the HFS+ filesystems in Disk Utility in detail? Are these all HFS+? Which HFS+ filesystem is better for use with Windows (MacDrive): "Mac OS X Extended" or "Mac OS X Extended (case-sensitive)" Thanks! Last edited by PhoneInside; 10-16-2009 at 10:11 PM. So I think this time the saying "there's nothing like doing it yourself" has again demonstrated that it is true:
Because I didn't want to have this dumb partition combination I helped myself and tried it with MacDrive on windows the program I also want to use. So without saying anything it partitioned the hard drive in just one single big HFS+ partition! I wouldn't have thought that windows is sometimes good at something again! So thanks for the "no-help"! |
