Default Failed update, Please help

Hi,
Today I "updated" my hackintosh and after the update, I have no hackintosh.....

The 1st time i restarted, it didn't even come up to the desktop, only to the blue screen. 2nd time and most times thereafter it comes up to the desktop but mouse is frozen, and keyboard is unavailable. Tried substituting both and neither changed anything. Tried a safe boot, but when it reaches the sign in screen, the cursor is blinking ot the correct place in the dialog box, but neither the mouse or keyboard work during the "safe boot" either.

Also when it reaches the desktop, after 15-30 sec, the HD light goes on for 10 secs or so, but nothing else changes. I can insert a CD in the DVD player and it comes up on the desktop, but the mouse and keyboard remain frozen.

the "update", updated logic studio 8, and most of the associated prgs as well as a couple of others and leopard. (total of 11 items). Before the update I had been running 10.5.7

I can still use xp pro on the same machine as before.

thanks for your time and expertise....

I've at least found out what happened, but haven't been completely successful at implementing a fix....

The update (to 10.5.8) trashes the extension that allows the use of a PS2 keyboard and mouse..... I've tried putting in the appleps2controller kext, but it hasn't solved the problem as of yet. I can use a USB keyboard and mouse, but I have very limited space in my studio and this is a very inelegant solution. (I run 3 machines including this one, which worked great with the switch until the update, with a KVM switch and now I can't..

Would greatly appreciate any other help!!
