Ok, so I'm backing up my files to a usb external drive and it stops. Just stops and the computer is frozen I get the swirl thingy and nothing works so I have to do a hard reset. Now, I read on apple's site that you can't have an MBR partitioned drive, you can either use an apple type or GUID style. Now, this is a 500 GB hard drive and I only need a max of 50GB to back up my data. The other 450GB I use for a lot of other stuff and it has to be compatible with windows AND mac. So, any suggestions on how to fix this or should I just get an additional tiny back-up drive?

8vm800 775 motherboard
Pentium D processor 40GB, 100GB, 120GB internal hard drives a DVDRW drive 2GB DIMM speed 533 ram 6200 256MB Nvidia graphics card iMic sound card Firewire PCI Soundblaster Audigy with Firewire (for my PC boot) No overclocking I'm using iAtkos 5i as installation I figured out how to get time machine working and I used the 120GB hard drive (Made 2 partitions) but as it's backing up, it will do 2.5GB - 4GB and it will freeze my computer. I have to hard reset and then it'll go again from the same place it stopped. This is the same with copying files. The time machine I can kinda deal with but the file copying is becoming a big issue. I don't know if it's my specs (RAM???) or a kext. I'm also running 10.5.7 update and I have the seatbelt kext fixed. |

I get absolutely no error, it just freezes and that's that. It's been doing it to me every single time I try to transfer large files or folders (3GB and up). However, lately with internal drives it's been good. I'm using the ToH kernel. And I don't know what it means by checking the console.
