Default Reseting Admin Password on a Hack (without startup disk)

Need some help on the best way to reset the admin password without a startup disk on my hack leopard (sorry if this is a repeat thread, but I searched for a few hours here and couldn't find anything clear enough).

Hey there, try doing this

Boot into the Leopard Install DVD and hit F8 then type -s to enter the single user mode and type:
Quote:
/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /
passwd root
touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
reboot

Yeah, I don't have a startup/install DVD. Is there any way around this?

Well you can always do it without DVD, just need to boot in single user with -s

ran into a few snags.

1. I boot into -s (notice the error- "Firewire unable to determine security mode; defaulting to full-secure.")

2. I enter '/sbin/fsck -fy'

3. I enter '/sbin/mount -uw /'

4. I enter 'passwd root' (prompts for new password, although when I type it displays no characters- after 'enter', i am prompted to retype it and again no characters appear)

5. I enter 'touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone'

I then reboot, and i still cannot change the password. As you can tell I'm a total novice, but is there any way you can help? Thanks.
