Default Hackintosh as Audio Studio Questions

Hi lads,
just a few days ago i sucessfully got iDeneb 10.5.5 running on my Dell Inspiron 530, specs:
-Intel Q6600 Quadcore
-4Gb Ram
-ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro graphics card
-600Gb Sata Hard drive.

anyway, it seems to run fine, got Quartz Extreme working and the temperature measurement averages out at 34degrees C.
I installed Logic Studio and will be using the machine for Audio Production. I'd like to thank everyone here who helped out
I have a few questions:

-Is there any disadvantage to using a Hackintosh like this for audio production? is it likely to be less stable than an equivilant MacPro or XP installation?

-should I expect to get the best possible performance from my hardware with this setup? or will it be a bit crippled?

-is there any sort of "overheating" risk with Hackintosh? as i said, at idle the temperature measurement widget reads an average of 34 degrees C across the 4 cores. is this ok? does a Hackintosh somehow run hotter than the machine would do normaly?

if anyone can shine some light here i'd be thankful. i suspect its just paranoia and insecurity on my part but i'd like to know what the score is.

i've only noticed one minor "crash" so far, where during the Logic Studio installation (40Gb of DVDs) the installer seemed to hang up halfway through, dvd drive couldn't eject, kinda wierd but nothing like that since and in general the system seems to run very well.

thanks!!!

How much heating you get in windows usually? about audio you can check the creative list, theres other specially for mac too of course, about the DVD you cant eject it via software?

thanks,
i'm using a firewire audio interface, no problems with audio at all

i was more refering to general system performance really.

i never checked the temperature in windows before, which leads me to another question, the windows partition cant be booted now because "BOOTMGR is Missing", i've googled how to fix this and found a soulution involving the XP startup disc and repairing the bootmanager from the command line. if i do this will it replace the Darwin bootloader and mean i cant boot into OSX? or will it just fix the XP partition so Darwin can boot it as well as OSX.

I dont want to mess up my system now that its finally working

and ya, the DVD crash was wierd, couldn't do anything, it sat for an hour on a period where it should have asked me to insert the next disc.

oh I see nvm then, about the dual boot there lots of guides on inet, google it, even theres on youtube man XD, basically you have to fix XP with the disc then do this:

Quote:
copy CHAIN0 file from installation dvd to C:
edit boot.ini

[boot loader]
timeout=1
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Micro soft Windows XP Professional” /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\chain0=”OSX LEO” (just add this part)

awesome,
are there any side-effects to this method?

anyway, thanks man, you've been a big help through this and i'm delighted that it works.

anyway, do you have any opinion on the whole Hackintosh performance/stability thing? i'm just curious if the performance is generally regarded as top-notch or if theres a general concensus of "na, not as good as it should be".

i have to say, i'm really enjoying Leopard and Logic Studio

also, any opinion on temperatures? do Hackintoshs have an overheat tendancy i should know about?

thanks man.

Well, I cant compare with a real mac, cuz never touch one, but works really good, I get Kernel Panic once in a while but I believe is cuz Torrents apps, I just use Photoshop and Archicad there, and the performance is really good, luv the OS, about the temperature, I dont even check that XD, but you can google this stuff, or compare with Windows, if you really complain buy a new FAN @.@, iono

But is gooood XD

cools,
i'm literally only going to be running Logic Studio on this machine, no interwebz or anything. ya, i'll look up temperatures for my hardware, i just got kinda worried because when i was researching how to get full Quartz Extreme graphics enabled on my graphics card, some guys were alluding to problems with the cards running warmer than normal.

is it possible that an OS can have an effect on the hardware running temperatures though? doesn't really make sense to me, but im a n00b, hence why i ask

Yeah, the OS can affect your hardware, so you better check and compare with windows, good luck with that.

a quick look through google suggests its a healthy temperature.

or is that included in the core temp reading???

cheers man
