I am hopeful someone here can help me. I have done searches and found this problem only once, with no suggestions. I have been at other forums with no results either. So you can't say I am not searching as an answer. I am feeling really frustrated right now and need some help.
I built a system using the Intel DG31PR M/B and Intel E7200 processor. I am using all of the built in components and got the system up and running in Windows. I have got it set up to do a dual boot and have the drive ready for installation. Once I boot up, I get past the boot up screen I see the grey screen with the apple and then the starry sky. Then it sits with the colored wheel spinning. every few minutes the CD-Rom will spin up, but nothing else happens. I have had someone suggest I get a different Distro such as 10.5.6 or 10.5.7. However, I have no idea what this exactly is except it is some sort of Software Package, or even where to get it. Would I be better off to go ahead and try Snow Leopard? I am needing someone who can guide me through this... any takers? |

Hi there! you haven't mentioned which DVD u are using. Is it retail Leopard?
Before starting the installation the first thing to do is to check if ur hardware is compatible. Distros are various modifications to OSX that different people have made so that it can work in a PC. Some popular distros are Kalyway, iPC and various others. I have successfully installed Kalyway 10.5.1 and dual booted with windows 7 in my desktop. Ur problem seems to be with the DVD u r using. U can try these distros and download from any torrent sites.

I have read numerous places that both my CPU & MB are compatible, however, have not found anyone who has used my combination recently. The posts from those who were successful are over a year old. They do not give any specifics and if I write them I get no reply. I am using everything (sound and video) built in, which is supposed to be compatible without any patching. I guess stating the DVD version would help wouldn't it. I have tried retail disk 10.5 this is where I get the starry sky. I have also downloaded iDeneb Combo Upgrade KIT 10.5.8. I am just guessing here that it is the Distro for 10.5.8. However, I get the blue screen of death when trying to run it. My problem with Distro's is that I am unsure if I am actually getting the Distro when I find it, as the ones I find have extensions for movies and music on the end, so I am afraid to download them. Any suggestions? |

i am also new to hackintosh and i know how frustrating it is when u search for answers and u get no replies.
![]() I don't know much about installing retail. there are tutorials on that on insanelymac.com. did u download ur retail disk? if u did then there must be some problem during burning. when u burn a disk do that in the minimum speed possible. and the 10.5.8 upgrade kit u have is not a distro. it is supposed to upgrade ur installation to 10.5.8. u cannot install from it but only upgrade. if u want to try then u can download and use kalyway 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 distro. it is very easy to use. and the files are in the format iso. just search for KALYWAY LEOPARD 10.5.1 intel SSE2 and SSE3 in google and u will get torrents for it.

I will try using your terms and do a Google search for those Distro's. Today I did buy the 10.6 installation disk at Best Buy, been reading up on it. Apparently it is supposed to be an easy install with this CPU, but need a way to boot right now. Any suggestions? |

i think to install retail, first u have to do some patching. i dont think trying to boot directly will work.
there are a lot of guides on installing retail on insanelymac.com. try those.i'm sure u'll figure it out.

I downloaded the 10.5.2 and installed it and I am up and running. I have sound and 1024x768 resolution on my monitor, but I am running. I am currently downloading the 10.5.8 update so that I can start transferring some things over from my old Mac.
I also tried 10.6 and install was working, but something happened and it restarted to 10.5.2. But, that is for another day, as of right now i am running and I truly thank you for your help! Randy |

Hey good for U!
But is it possible to directly update ur 10.5.2 to 10.5.8? i doubt that. i think first u have to update to 10.5.3 then 10.5.4 etc. but i may be wrong. better search more on it.

I think your right. I recall a thread that said you had to do increment's until 10.5.6, then you could skip up to 10.5.8.
