I purchased an iiView A2 on ebay and I want to duplicate what this guy did ? (Yes I've asked him in "Comment form" on his youtube posting.) I was hoping to get this done over the weekend, so I thought I'd ask in two places.
I used the Chameleon rc3 bootloader per instructions on lifehacker to create my thumbdrive. It boots successfully and almost immediately says that I need to hold in the power button to power down. No further explanation. Of course on lifehacker guide there were many BIOS settings on the pc end that this A2 doesn't allow me to change (Atom based). As a last ditch effort I tried the EFI Psystar loader and that simply locked up about a minute into it. No hard drive activity and no external dvd rom activity. Has anyone tried and succeeded with these? Why did I choose this over the other Atom based choices? --standard 12" screen, 320GB HDD and 2GB memory..hard to find anything equal. |

I too have been frustrated trying to get OSX on the A2.
No matter what I try it ends up hanging, generally waiting for boot device... The BIOS settings basically allow you to set the date and the boot device and that's it. I'll keep trying, Patrick Last edited by bibendum; 11-14-2009 at 04:15 AM. |

Okay - I have the answer... Two full days of struggling with this (there's an upside to the down economy - no work) with every Hackintosh expert I know, and I finally figured it out tonight.
The main stumbling block is this: you need to change the BIOS setting for the USB 2.0 Controller Mode from HiSpeed to FullSpeed... Then grab yourself a USB drive (ramstick or HD), restore your Snow Leopard Install DVD to it using Disk Utility on your Mac or Hack (hint: it will probably go faster if you save an image of your DVD, then restore from the image). Then download NetbookBootMaker, run it to process your USB drive, plug it into the iiView A2, press F11 at boot and select your USB drive. It will take a while to boot (to see what it's doing, you can enter -v as a boot option. After you do the install and setup, if you reboot from the USB drive install drive, you can use Netbook Installer in the Utilities menu to activate options, install your bootloader, etc... Lemme know how it goes for you. Patrick Last edited by bibendum; 11-15-2009 at 01:03 PM. |

Couple of things. My install hung at the very end. Said 10 minutes remaining. I left it all night. Finally forced a reboot the next morning. I had to go into finder preferences to get the hard drive showing up on the desktop.
And I'm not really fond of NetbookBoot's way of installing all the kexts into the Extra/Extensions.mkext - a script is provided for this. But for now, it was the easiest way. I haven't gotten audio working yet, and I ordered a Broadcom 4321 from eBay to replace the Atheros wifi. More as it develops... Patrick |

Hi,
I'm new to this forum. Just completed my first hackint0sh project: the dell mini 9 using the meklort/mechdrew tutorials and it went like a dream. Now I've ordered a dell mini 10v and I'll prob. give that a go this weekend... I'm really enjoying learning about all of this. My question, though, is regarding the following ebay item: iiView a2 clone from china I'm really tempted to come in with a low-ball offer and see if I can pick one of these up and install SL on it. Anyone know what this is? I thought the iiView was, itself, a generic laptop... this appears to be a generic-generic ![]() The hardware looks similar to the iiView with the exception of the card reader. Generally, the GPU and other peripherals look do-able, but I'm interested in feedback before I take the plunge... comments? Many thanks in advance. iona BTW... what's the deal with the Rebel EFI... is it any good? I bought it, but am planning to just stick with meklort/mechdrew for future installs. |
