Exclamation Asus 1005ha and OSX

Hey all, im about to install iDeneb 1.4 on my Asus eeepc 1005ha and had a few questions before going about it:

1.) Will iDeneb set up dual booting with windows for me, or do I have to do that myself, and if so how would I do that?

2.) How can I get iDeneb to boot off a USB flash drive?

3.) Anything major I should look out for? I've been reading around and I think im good to go. im going to be using OSX solely for iphone development so I dont need wifi or anything like that.

Default Trouble...

I've been messing around with this for a couple of days. I'm running a 1005HA with the 601 BIOS. While I can get iDeneb 10.5.6 to boot and install without a hitch, the machine simply won't progress much on the restart. I've tried it with -v -f -x and cpus1 on restart as well, and it won't boot.

And I have the 505 bios, havent updated yet. think ill hold off until I see how things go with this bios. can you tell me how u boot off the flash drive tho, and the dual booting scenario?

I'd imagine that dual boot would be a matter of partioning the hard drive appropriately. I don't mess with a flash drive; I've been booting the iDeneb DVD directly off the ASUS USB DVD drive and it works fine that way. I've tried installing to the internal hard disk and to a USB hard disk and while the install goes flawlessly, the machine hangs on reboot.

I too bought this machine specifically to hackintosh; if it's incapable of it then I'll just ebay it and get an MSI wind.

Anybody else out there have any luck with this? I really don't want to have to get rid of this thing. Once I get this thing on a flash drive tonight i'll try the install.

EDIT: After a lot of reading around I cant seem to find anything on how to boot off of the flash drive that doesnt involve me using a mac in some way to format it. Am I missing something here?

Default Hackintosh on your Asus 1005HA (one way to do it)

Here is how I did it. All works fine except the wireless and I can't control screen brightness (there may be a way but I have not found out how to).

If anyone can tell me how to fix those I would much appreciate.

Go to this site: How-to: Install OS X on Asus Eee PC 1000HE Netbook | Netbooks & Small Form Factor Computers | Small Computing

This install is designed for the 1000he. It works but not right away.

You need to delete all three of the other partitions then create the one for OSX (fat 32 will work). Keep the XP one so you can dual boot. Install Ideneb 1.3 (1.4 no work or did not work for me). The above install will take you through to the latest updates.

That's it. That simple. But brightness does not work and Wireless does not. Anyone have a driver for the Wireless or a solution for screen brightness.

For you guys that actually understand this stuff, here is more on the screen brightness. During the install brightness works through the FN keys. Then after initial installation the FN keys control brightness as well. But once the 6 Kexts are installed screen brightness no longer works.

Go figure. Any solution. chimneycheck@gmail.com

You can dual boot. When you start your computer it will be set to OSX as default but when you see the writing that indicates it is starting just press any key and a choice will come up indicating all your partitions. Just enter the appropriate one. That simple with XP. I don't think 7 or Vista willl work this way.

Another thing. Initially, once OSC is installed it may freeze upon reboot. Shut er down and retry. You should not have to your external DVD connected.

Don't change the bios. Just delete all particians (hidden also -ALL of them) except the XP one (if you want to dual boot).

I believe that deleting the partitions changes the bios a bit making it so that you can boot to Mac without the DVD connected at startup.

Whatever!! It works.

Love to have feedback on this.

Oh and by the way. This little machine works fantastic on Mac and XP. I had the HE and loved it. My only complaint is the partially glossed screen. Otherwise what an amazing little computer.

Look at my earlier replies for a solution (using 1.3) or you can keep your install disk in the external DVD and start it with it attached but don't tell it to boot to the DVD. Just restart it with it attached and let it do the rest.

Thanks a lot! I'm out of town for awhile, but when I get back i'll definatly download the older iDeneb and give this a try. You said you were able to get this up and running to the latest version? because like I said, I need to do iphone dev which i think requires a newer version than whats on 1.3

I've tried booting from the HD after install from 1.4 (10.5.6) with the DVD connected and DVD in the external drive and that doesn't help. It still hangs early in the boot process.

Out of curiousity, why would 1.3 (10.5.5) work where 1.4 (10.5.6) wouldn't? And which kexts/fixes in the OS did you install?
