can someone with a working osx tell me if the fan is ALWAYS running at low speed while idling? i NEED to know because it bothers me a lot and i want to know if my 1008ha is the only one or maybe damaged.

now i will restore win xp from the recovery dvd and check if the fan is still problematic or if i have to blame osx' bad power management.

Do you have any idea whether or not your installation method works for the 1005HA. I have it and used the method described (but had to delete the extra 3 partitions first, keeping the XP partition) on a site that utilizes the Ideneb 1.3 (hacked) DVD. I bought a retail copy of Leopard (so Mac gets their dough for their software) but wonder if there is any real benefit to installing the retail DVD as opposed to the Ideneb (since I can use their updates, works find with the 10.5.6). I don't want to go through the effort unless there is some sort of gain.

In case anyone cares, the 1005HA is an incredible machine. I had the 1000HE and loved it and love the HA even better. Blows the Dell Latitude 2100 away, in all categories (except the rubberized exterior of the Latitude is really quite nice).

Any thoughts.

@mabandla2003, @John LeBaron:

Can't help you. You have to find out yourselves. Let us know what you find.

If you're happy with iDeneb, stay with it. I am just not comfortable with it myself because it does things I do not understand. And I like to be in control of the computer and software I use.

Default My 1008HA sleeps, but stays warm?

I managed to get the sleep function working on my hackintoshed 1008HA - everything powers down, LED blinking. However, I noticed that the the bottom of upper right hand corner (below the power button) stays warm the entire time. Also, the battery went down 15% in about 3 hours.

For those that got their 1008HA sleeping, does your 1008HA stay warm too?

Hello friends,

First post and need help installing osx on my 1008ha. I am attempting to follow This Tutorial to no avail. I have a mac, and installed a fresh copy of 10.5.5 off a disc to a 30 gb ipod that i wasn't using. The install went fine. I installed chameleon 2.0 rc2 and DellEFI 1.2 alpha5 Although the two installs went seamlessly, they didn't go according to the tutorial. Both had a fairly quick gui based install that happily told me they were successful. I also turned hyperthreading off on the asus

Plugging the ipod into my asus and booting from it begins loading darwin. and then after displaying the "press any key for boot options" screen brings me to the gray apple screen. Where it sits forever.

The install just seemed too easy to work the first time. I don't understand the part of the tutorial where it says boot with -x or -t options. There is never a command prompt between the bios boot selector, then darwin, then gray apple. can't find where to put in options.

would be very appreciative of some input and advice.

thanks

Try pressing the Tab key when you see chameleon's boot selection screen.

Also, do not use DellEFI any more. Instead, make an Extra folder as described further down in the "tutorial". For this, however, you have to start over, e.g. copy back a "clean" Extensions folder, because DellEFI messes with it too much (deleting and replacing kexts).

quiteannoyed -

Even if you use Dell1.2a5, could you not replace/add/delete kext files from the /Extra/Mini9Ext/ folder to modify the kext files? (then running UpdateExt to reload)

How did you build the dsdt.aml file that you posted on your guide? Did you just use the dsdt Patcher GUI? I have 2GB of RAM, but when I used dsdt Patcher GUI to build the file, my 1008HA won't power all the way down at shut down or standby (have to force shut down by holding power button).

Do you have this problem? (I already have openHaltRestart1.03.kext but it didn't fix the problem)

Finally, do you mind posting the list of kext files in your Extra folder on your guide?

so ive tried so many combinations ive lost count at this point. i have some questions i would like clarified.

-do i install a complete copy of osx to my hard drive or just copy the installer iso?

-the systemconfiguration folder doesn't exist after chameleon is installed. where should i create this folder?

-for some reason chameleon no longer boots to the graphical side, and i can't switch between them with the tab button.

-i understand there are two partitions on my hdd, but what are the other two drives? (as seen in pic) are those swap partitions or something?

-I can't get the iso to show up whether its on the same hdd as chameleon or on a different drive.

please help, i feel like im still in the stages of barely understanding this stuff. these kind of projects take a while before you can talk the lingo, so please bare with me.
