So I am doing this install for a friend who purchased both the Dell Mini 9 and a legitimate version of OSX Leapard. But since we are working on a severe budget, I have decided to use iATKOS 5i 10.5.5 DVD to do the install, since all we have available to us is an external DVD drive.
First, off, I must say that I am a computer repair man familiar with Microsoft products only. I have zero experience with Macintosh products. This of course is part of the reason I took on the job. I need to learn. But, I am literate when it comes to computer work, so I should be able to figure this out fairly easily. However, the tutorials I have found thus far are severely lacking in one department that seems necessary. The customization page. Anyway, I got the image burned, and have been able to go through the entire process of installing. Then the problems happened. The first time seemed successful, except I evidently had no drivers installed for the keyboard. So I started over, This time setting some custom drivers. I first chose all of the drivers that seemed to be needed. This didn't work at all. The next time I tried with only the Drivers for the keyboard. This got me to the grey Apple screen where it just stalled. Now I am trying yet again, and I chose the drivers and the keyboard. But I didn't get the install window this time. It seems to be installing regardless, but I can't see what it's doing, or how much progress it has made, and this makes me uneasy about the end of the process as well. I suspect that this next attempt will be a failure also, so I am asking for some help here. There has got to be somebody that has installed this OS on a Dell MMini, since there are many websites devoted to the cause. And likewise, there must be people familiar with the iATKOS 5i 10.5.5 DVD that I am using. Therefore, I am wondering if there is anybody here that could tell me in simple yet indepth detail, exactly which options I should be choosing in the customization page before I continue this install, and what I need to know to get this thing working after it is installed. I have a vague idea, and it has been proclaimed on at least one website to be a one step process, Hack Attack : Install Leopard On your PC in Just One Step | dailyApps But it seems to be much more than one simple step, and is confusing me no end. I only have a limited time to get this done, since it is not my computer, and there is payment on the line for me in the form of a new laptop, so I would really like to succeed in this endeavor. Some of the websites I have used thus far to glean infor on this task are listed below: iATKOS iATKOS OSx86 Project: Instructions iATKOS 5i 10.5.5 Intel DVD - InsanelyMac Forum Installing on a Dell Mini 9 Gizmodo - How To: Hackintosh a Dell Mini 9 Into the Ultimate OS X Netbook - Dell mini 9 hackintosh guide Converting DELL Mini 9 into an OS X Netbook MyDellMini • How-To: Install Mac OS X - DellEFI Method Run Leopard (Mac OS 10.5) on a Dell Mini 9 As I finish writing this, The Mini has finished installing and rebooted itself. I disconnected the external DVD drive to let it boot into Leapard, but again it has stalled at the Grey Apple screen. I am at a loss here and need some help. Thank you for your time spent reading this, and I do Appreciate any assistance you may offer. Peace Last edited by Daladim; 04-24-2009 at 11:52 AM. Reason: Spelling corrections |
