2-You back up your BIOS using the program AFUWIN listed in the tutorial on the first page of this thread 3-It will work fine after the MOD. I have modded my BIOS several times and never had a problem or have to revert back. 4-Yes, you can run Vista. In fact, you can dual/triple boot Vista and OS X. 5-If you are currently running Vista, you can use Windows to create a partition in your HDD and then use your OS X disc to install it on the new partition. All the instructions are in Icchansan's tutorial in full detail on page 1 of this thread. Hope this helps. Good luck cheers dray

Sounds like you are not too familiar with flashing BIOS or partitioning, etc. So I would advise you be careful and follow EXACTLY about the flashing process. Partitioning is also risky if you have useful data on your drive. backup! Or like me (as lots of these HP elite model comes with two HDD), just wiped out the second drive for the Mac, leaving the original Vista untouched. Much less hassle than configuring dual boot. Also, flashing the Modified BIOS will not effect your using of original Vista, however, if your Vista was installed under RAID mode, you will have some trouble like me. OSX needs AHCI mode while Vista will refuse to boot using AHCI mode. Not sure this applies to everyone, but even I booted into vista under RAID mode and activated the AHCI driver according to microsoft knowledge base, I still can't boot into the vista under AHCI mode. I think it has sth to do with the Intel ICH9R chipset driver that's already in there but was only in RAID mode. I did little experiment by installing a fresh vista under AHCI mode, everything went smooth, and after installing, I installed the Intel chipset ICH9R driver, this time, the AHCI controller, instead of RAID controller, was installed. |

Just want to report back that after playing with the distro I finally got retail installed.
-Still using mod BIOD 5.17. -I guess any generic bootcd will do but I used the guide and bootcd on insanelymac (the guide was for a gigabyte motherboard but the concept is the same) [Guide] Vanilla Retail 10.5.7 with Chameleon v2 RC2 for Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L (Optional update to 10.5.8) - InsanelyMac Forum -The bootcd there works great on the HP motherboard, booted the retail install with direct audio and LAN support. -Followed the guide there and installed retail 10.5.6 on the second partition, and chameleon loader on the first partition (visible partition as i am still new to this and it's easy to manipulate). -In the chameleon partition Extra folder, i put six kext provided in that bootcd, they are (I am sure not all are needed but it's working so leave it there for now). -AppleDecrypt.. -Disabler -IOAHCIBlo... -OpenHaltRestart... -No need to put the Realtek1000.kext as the stock driver does the job well, and can let me use the Time Machine (my previous iATOKS v7 install didn't allow me using it, saying network problem). But the guide said using the provided realtekR1000.kext and associated kext file in the extra folder will give Bonjour functionality. -Tried the voodooHDA + two other kext in the Extra folder, this gives sound but won't detect my USB mic. So I caved, removed them, and installed the VoodooHDA in the system extension folder. It works great there. -Used apple update and went to 10.5.8, all stays the same. Still can't Sleep. I decide to live with it as OS X boot up really fast and shutdown fast too. Plus voodooHDA doesn't work well after sleep. -The DSDT patch thing is supposed to solve some problem I guess, I briefly tried it but didn't solve my sleep problem (did allow me to remove the disabler.kext from the extra folder but the CPU temperature is higher). So I reverted back. -Fairly happy with the current install. iLife works great. === Update -use the patched AppleHDA by Taruga, here 1.6.2a37.zip Remove your voodoo (just delete it) if you already installed it into your extensions folder. Then use kexthelper to install the applehda.kext and enabler.kext. This will give full support for analog and digital output. The built-in SPDIF digital output is great, and sounds better to me than the analog, at least on my receiver. So if someone considering building a complete HTPC using this HP hackintosh, now it can be a perfect systom, digital sound, and PLEX media center app. Cheers! If your mobo model dont appear in the site, try using everest (full version) or just open your case, and check the mobo model, it should appear in big white letters close to the processor fan
you dont have to touch anything inside is really easy, dont need anything tools for this.About the backup, AFUWIN will help you with that, its like saving a document, just press save and email it to yourself or put in a flash drive ![]() If you have IPIBIL-LA or IPIBL-LB you can flash without problem, post your mobo info before trying please, I'll let you know if you can or not.
