Default "Still waiting for root device" error after complete install

I completely installed OSx86 using iPC 10.5.6 (with ppf 1, 2 and 3 applied). After restarting I get this screen:

Booting with -v I get this:

I've read that the problem is that OSx isn't finding my hard dive (80gb Seagate IDE).

I have also read that I need to enable AHCI in my bios, but I have looked through my bios and it does not have that option. It is a 5 or 6 year old Compaq Evo D51C - p4 2.4ghz, 512mb ddr 266. As for the mobo, I am not sure what make or model it is, but it uses the Intel 845G chipset, has built-in AC ‘97 Stereo Codec, and has built-in Intel extreme graphics.

I have the one hard drive as master, and a dvdrw as slave on the only used IDE channel.

Any suggestions? If more info is needed from me then I will get it promptly. Thank you.

Did you used a patched kernel like voodoo or speedstep?

Gah, I thought I covered everything, but I forgot about Kernel Angus. This install was with the Voodoo kernel. My first install I tried the vanilla kernel, but that resulted in constant reboots at "Starting xxxxx/xxx" --- sorry I don't remember the text.

Long story short, the issues described above are after the install using the Voodoo kernel.

Please let me know if I need to supply any more info, and thank you so much.

FIXED (kind of)

After reinstalling and reinstalling and reinstalling, I finally stumbled onto the correct (or at least less wrong) chipset. I now can boot into osx, and it's really pretty. I have absolutely no experience with osx so it's a fun new world.

After booting in, a few minutes pass then I get a screen full of text and errors, but that is a new problem so I'll open a new post about that.

Thanks for the help all!
