I'm really new to iPhone jailbreaking. I have an iPhone 3G running on FW 2.2.1 and BB 2.30. I understand that there is no unlock for this version. I am currently using a piggy back sim, and I recently wanted to jailbreak it.

1- Does it matter/can i still jailbreak it if I've initially activated it officially through iTunes? Would they find out and blacklist me?

2- Would I still be able to use the piggyback sim?

3- And what should I use to Jailbreak my phone?

And an unrelated question, let's say they officially released the 3.0 FW in the near future. Do I update it through iTunes or no? Would it up my baseband? And would there be an unlocking solution? (Updating to 3.0 from 2.2.1 and bb 2.30) If I want to be able to software unlock it later on, should I jailbreak my phone now? Or should I leave it as it is?

I'll answer your question one by one.

1. Yes, you can jailbreak it using quickpwn or pwnagetool. They woldn't blacklist you, Apple cannot know if it is jailbroken.

2. You can still be able to use your piggyback SIM.

3. You shold use quickpwn or pwnagetool from the Dev Team. If you have a MAC, I suggest to use pwnagetool, just because it allows you to create a custom Firmware, and disables baseband updates. See iClarified tutorials.

You should never update the iPhone through iTunes, just because it will upgrade the baseband. You should use pwnagetool. We hope that the Dev Team will release a software unlock for 3.0!

You can jailbreak it now without any problem.

Also check on iClarified wich bootloader you have. If you have 5.8, you can downgrade the baseband to 2.28 and unlock it with YellowSn0w.

Apple will never blacklist you. If for any reason you have to repair your iPhone sending to Apple and they notice the jailbreak, you will loose your waranty. But if you make a restore with an official firmware without any jailbreak before sending it to Apple, they won't notice the jailbreak.

Jailbreaking is very safe, mine is jailbroken since the beggining without any issues.

The Dev Team won't came up with an unlock for 2.30. They are waiting for the 3.0 firmware and its baseband to unlock it. On June we will know...

The rumour is that the dev team has stopped working on an unlock for the FW2.2.1 BB2.30.03 and started focusing on the FW3.0 betas and it's new baseband. They're keeping the progress on that hush hush so Apple doesn't fix whatever loopholes they're exploiting before the final release. We're all hoping for a YellowSn0w unlock for the FW3.0 as soon as it is released

On a slightly more pessimistic note, I've read on some forums that Apple has paid the dev team to stop playing hell with them and that they're no longer hacking the iPhone, so0o0o0o, we might end up with no unlocks after the FW3.0 release. I'm hoping this one is just a bad bad bad rumour!

Not only do i read the dev team blog, but I also read comments on their forum. Do you have any other update aprt from the fact that the FW3 latest beta has been jailbroken? There hasn't been a significant update on the BB2.30.03 or any FW3.0Beta unlock since January!

edit: The dev team blog just posted this item YESTERDAY [http://blog.iphone-dev.org/] that any updates on the yellowSn0w unlock will be made AAAAFTER 3.0 is officially released corroborating exactly what i said. As for the apple-paying-dev-team thing, you can read absolutely clearly that i said i read that on some forums and hope that is only a hoax. I was by no means forcing that opinion on anyone and your absolutely rude response was uncalled for.
