Jailbreaking a Fido 3G iPhone with QuickPwn without restoring first?

My brother bought a 3G iPhone from Fido a few months ago. It came with firmware 2.2.

Can I just use the QuickPwn 225_2 and then jailbreak it?
Or do I need to restore it to a fresh 2.2 firmware before jailbreaking it?

I also plan to unlock it after with YellowSnow.

I am familiar with jailbreaking a 2G iphone, so is it the same for the 3G?
