Default Cannot Communicate with iPhone beyond recovery mode or DFU, restores just fail :(

Hello All,

I was wondering if someone may be able to help me ( well my nephew actually)

He's only 17 years old and he has saved his pocket money for like a year literally to afford an iphone. Now being the simple boy he is, he has tried to jailbreak it and messed it all up and so he has called on his uncle to try and save his @ss

This is the problem.

Iphone 3G 8GB. We think that he upgraded to 2.2.1 then used QuickPWN on Win to jailbreak.

Now the phone is in recovery mode and the simpleton that he is he didnt realise he installed the pineapple boot logo and steve blurting in russian recovery mode caption.

Now the problem being I can't restore it for the life of me!

I have an iphone 3g too which is jailbroken but never had any of these problems.

Tried DFU mode, it's fine, Itunes picks the phone up but just serial number no models or anything else and tells me it needs restoring.

When I try to restore I get Error Code 6 ( Recovery mode or DFU)
No matter what I do always error code 6. Funny thing is that if I use DFU mode i get a white screen first.

Now the thing is, I notice when it is preparing for restore the device has the apple logo come up with the status bar, the status bar starts and then the phone just reboots and I am back to being stuck looking at russian steve again

Does anyone know how I can overcome this issue. Someone here must have some idea. Many Many Thanks for reading this. I really really hope I can save this little guy's iphone. I wouldnt even mind paying a small fee to someone for their time to help me.

please find log files here for error

Thanks

I have just been browsing through the log file. Did you try to restore/DFU restore to a custom firmware? Just got the idea cause the logfile talks about setting the system filesize to the one a custom firmware does ;-)

Usually I would suggest to DFU restore to Apple stock firmware. The problem is you dont know which firmware the iPhone is at. can you find out the last steps your nephew did?

Reason is - as you know - there is no unlock as of now if the iPhone is at firmware 2.2.1 with baseband 02.30.03 - the iPhone would just be a nice iPod...

Default Thankssss

Hello Volkspost

Thanks for the reply, I have tried stock firmware of all 3 firmwares 2.0, 2.1, 2.2.1 and still no joy

I don't care about unlocking the phone as I am in the UK and can give my nephew an o2 sim card to get him running again. After all the time of mine and yours he is using if he has to change his phone number because he messed the iphone up is not a concern of mine!

Default Second Response

By the way have spoken to Nephew and he definitely updated to 2.2.1

it seems when I try to restore the status bar starts on the phone and then gives up

here is the log file with stock firmware. RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

Default Thanks

Thanks for the input n350z

I have tried on maybe 4-5 Machines same problem

basically the apple logo comes up on the iphone and the rotating counter but then as soon as the status bar appears something happens and the phone just reboots.

Someone must know what's happening. I don't believe the handset is dead as if it was I wouldn't be able to put it into DFU mode or communicate with iTunes!

Someone out there must be able to help me, I really hope so
