Default Why should I NOT jailbreak my iPhone 3G?

I have had my iPhone for months now and have kept it as factory, but recently have seen a lot of benefits to jailbreaking. With the release of yellowsn0w I am considering doing this for myself now, but just wanted to what the downside is. Will my phone run worse, are there viruses that can be installed on jailbroken phones, will call quality decrease, etc.

Thanks for any reply!

I don't see what the big worry is in jailbreaking. Its not a big decision to make. Its all reversible with a simple 10 min restore.

I say do it and if you don't like it, go back to original.
Jailbreaking does not change the way the iphone 'works'.
Everything is the same as before, cell quality, wifi, etc.

All the end-user sees is the ability to add more and do more with the iphone than previously possible.

Why look at a puppy in the window when you can go inside and pick it up !

jailbreaking is the best thing for my iphone. there has been so many softwares, themes and stuff out there and i am enjoying them for free. it just couldnt be any better. think of your iphone which has a camera but cant even do video. jailbreaking and the using cycorder allows you to do video with iphone. this is just one little advantage of jailbreaking. try it, i would say u will love it.

The only problem I had was with QuickGold, SBSettings, and Backrounder all installed, the phone seemed a bit more sluggish overall. There was a noticable lag for opening apps, and couple games would give a "low Memory" warning.
Not a big deal, though, and you can easily uninstall things if they give you trouble.
There's a lot of great stuff available if you jailbreak, but the only so much the little iPhone can handle at once.
I uninstalled SBSettings and backgrounder and it's as snappy as ever, and I can easily re-install if I decide I need them.
The other minor issue is that you have to wait a few days whenever Apple updates the firmware before you can upgrade and still jailbreak, but the devs are impressively quick in keeping up with Apple's changes.
Really nothing to lose by trying it out except a little bit of your time.

Cheers,
tys

Alright, I've read quite a bit about jailbreaking the 3G now... but one question still worries me:

If I jailbroke my 3G FW 2.2 now, what would happen when FW 2.3 is released?
Can I just upgrade the jailbroken FW 2.2 with a "clean" 2.3, or do I have to restore the iPhone first or would it even be impossible to upgrade the FW unless there would be a new jailbreak?

Point is: It's a contract phone, and I don't want to wake up one day having a useless phone while still having to pay the contract.

Replies would be much appreciated as I would love to hear that everything was okay and that I could start jailbreaking it right away.

your asking this question on a forum like Hackintosh what kind of responses do you you think your going to get dude ?

Most guys who hack their phones look down / funny at guys who dont.

But there is a simple fact. You cant deny.
Ive found that guys who do not hack their phones have way fewer problems with their phones.
So far I have seen over 100 iphone owners.
Hacked guys have way more issues with their phones.
Be it wifi issues, battery life etc. Vs guys who do not hack their phones.
Im sure Ill get bombed by quite a few guys for saying this but check it out for yourself.

I have done over 30 iphones in the circle of family & friends.
Not a single one have problem. Guess I'm lucky ...

There's always a risk you take when jb/unlock if you don't do it right or use the wrong software. Reading & reading this forum helps minimize that risk.

IMHO, I think the learning/fun part outweighs the risk.

You'll also get most likely after awhile unbearable lag. I don't care what anyone says.....there's always dreadful lag.
