my dad has called a few times trying to get his iphone with no data plan but att wont let him......i told him theres a way.he has the old iphone....and after his contract i guess he just go a regular plip phone from att to save on no data plan.....how can i get his phone to be able to accept his att sim card[i guess his iphone is still activated from before]and not get charged for data but still be able to use his wifi....thanks for any help.

put in the new sim card from at&t.

one thing you should be careful with ATT that they are charging you an arm and leg for the MB you use on the iphone every time you open safari...etc if you don't have data plan with them, i gave my brother an unlock iphone long ago and he put in his att sim, it works fine but he found out his first bill there is a charge of around 200 for data (only less than 6mb used). With Tmobile you don't have to worry much as long as you paying 5.99 for data plan.

but i want to know how to turn off the data link with att...and just use wifi thats on his phone to get online[and phone use ofcourse]....where can i get the intructions on how to do this?

i am doing this as we speak. i have a family plan with at&t with 5 lines. We were new to AT&T and discovered mediaNet. I was just checking it to see my minutes...then my dad got the bill for $300. We figured out the bill, but in order for this not to happen again...my dad put a block on the internet...that also means you can't send or recieve any picture messages, which is kind of a drag but its well worth it.

just tell them to block all in coming and outgoing data/internet.

you can do this 1 of 2 ways.

1. you can change your apn settings and this will block internet access.

2. if yor phone is jailbroken you can install boss prefs or SBSettings and just turn off the edge connection with a flick of a toggle button.

With either of these you will get a message that says Safari can not connect.

My wife is on regular ATT plan with no data. NO charges.
