Default Unresponsive 2G phone can't 'slide to unlock'

Five days ago I upgraded my jailbroken + unlocked 2G iPhone to the 2.2.1 firmware from 2.1. I added Glass Orb theme and a updated a couple of apps. Everything worked fine for a few days but now I'm locked out of my phone stopped at the 'Slide to Unlock' screen because it won't respond to touch. I experienced the problem with unresponsive 'Slide to unlock' yesterday too but could power off and the phone worked again but now 'Slide to Power Off' is similarly unresponsive...I can't even turn the thing off!

I've tried restoring and Quickpwn'ing again to no avail. I'm in Canada on Rogers' network...the Rogers' SIM was installed for the 'pwning' process. Any suggestions for making this phone functional again?

DFU restore to firmware 2.2.1, then use quickpwn again. The iPhone should work by then. Maybe one of the apps caused the trouble. After quickpwning dont "restore data from a backup" instead "setup as a new iPhone" and begin from scratch (sync9

Thanks for the reply volkspost. I've done restore in DFU with my Rogers SIM card and with the original (never activated) AT&T SIM. Nothing works. After trying a restore with the ATT SIM I didn't even unlock & jailbreak with QuickPWN...just left it at the 'slide for emergency' screen to see if the screen would respond to touch. No luck. This might indicate a hardware issue but I find that quite suspect because this is just days after I upgraded to 2.2...the phone is one year old this week. This bites as 2.1 was ok but apps were sluggish so I thought 2.2 might help. Help make my iPhone a brick is all it did I guess.

If a DFU restore does not help not even leaves you with a responsive slide to emergency touchpad on the iPhone I would bet it is a hardware issue. The DFU restore wipes out almost anything, at least verything that could interfere with this functionality.
On an Iphoen 2G you could even go back to fw 2.1 cause it is the same baseband, but I would bet this aint help either, sorry.

Thanks for your help volkspost - I called Apple and they've set up an RMA warranty replacement (3 days from warranty exp...whew). do I assume correctly that the DFU restore should have wiped all my data (mail, pix, music) and traces of unlocking/jailbreaking from the phone?

hi. I've got quite similar problem. For me pushing lock/power button twice does the trick - touchscreen becomes responsive and I can unlock. But this is quite annoying, too.
