ok this one worked i used quickpwn first then went into itunes and selected the custom.ipsw

and it seem to work

is it correct that after rebooting the bootloader starts up and flashes the phone?

Yes as long as you selected the unlock when you made your custom ipsw it will run after the custom ipsw has finished installing

So many thanks for the link. I have found this very useful for me. The step by step description is very simple and easy to follow. I have just jailbroken a phone of mine following this instruction.
