I dont know why. but I have this very very strong feeling that the how to hack the iphone could not have been done without the inside help of somebody at apple. And with apples consent.

I feel they pretty fast realized that their contract with A&T would hamper sales. And to make the sales targets they had planed for they would have to open up the iphone.

How come AT&T haven't taken apple to court ?

Ask the iPhone DEV TEAM how many hours and hours and hours they have put into finding all the ins and outs of the iphone...
just so they could put the code together for everyone...

No part of Apple's contract with AT&T states that the iphone has to be unhackable, only that Apple has to take reasonably quick and effective action against any hacks, which they have.

I don't really think AT&T is hugely concerned with iPhone unlocking at this point since the vast majority of people end up legitimately activating their phones instead of unlocking and using t-mob. Now, I'm not saying that AT&T is going to suddenly start selling unlocked phones, but they're not going to waste resources pursuing what is at best a minor issue.

As for Apple's inside help, there is no way that they could have decided to do this as a company without risking a HUGE legal battle with AT&T. If they found out, and they probably would, Apple would be in deep shit. I suppose an employee could have leaked some critical information, but they would have to be pretty high up to even have access to that info and I don't know about you, but I wouldn't risk my job for something like that. These employees signed NDA's, and if they violated them, they could get sued for millions on top of getting terminated, perhaps even imprisoned.

iPhone DEV TEAM is working so hard to make life of iphone users easy, I agree. But I think there also someone inside apple helping them. It is very strange contract of apple with AT&T for hacking.
