I'm really tired and pissed.
This is my third iPhone (2 of the old ones, 1 3G) so i think I'm entitled to a little rant. I really hate apple. They are a bunch of incosiderate arses who only cares about selling their goods, just as the ones the love to hate, M$. Let me give you some detail about my anger: I bought my 3G on august 22, the same day they started to sell them in my country, Argentina. The next day I realized the mute button was stuck, so I went to change it, as it was obviously a manufacturing defect (instant replacement, right?). They told me (my mobile provider, as there is no apple store or apple direct representative in Argentina) that they had to run the problem by Apple USA. It's been three weeks, and still no answer. Also, since 1.1.2 (when apple changed the number matching algorithm for a much complex one) or so the phone doesn't match the numbers of the sms with the ones on the phonebook. I expected that the problem will be fixed when they started selling the iPhone legally in my country. I was obviously wrong. We are in 2.1 now, and the sucker still doesn't match the numbers, but with a legally-bought-phone plus: now, also, doesn't match the numbers on the visual voicemail. Really, is it too much to ask from a phone to match the numbers on the incoming calls with the ones on the phonebook? I think not... And I was pissed with SonyEricsson about the lousy joystics... Oh, the irony! But don't get me wrong: I LOVE the iPhone. Since the first day. It's been a great work tool and a very fun gadget. And I wouldn't be complaining if that were the thing that weren't working... but the number matching? GIVE ME A BREAK!!! And please, I know I can jailbreak it (as I did with 2.0.2 and all the versions before) and fix the matching, but is not as simple in v2 and up and Timschuerewegen seems not to have the time (or will) to make it all over again as the 1 click solution he worked up for 1.1.4 (for which I will be eternally gratefull). Also, with all the patching solutions I tried on 2.0.2, the numbers on the visual voicemail still wasn't being matched. Maybe Apple should change their motto from "It Just Works" to "It's Just Cool", because the working part leaves much to be desired... Well, flame me if you want, I've emptied my chest. |

I forgot!!!
Now the numbers in the sms get matched, if you store the with the 911xxxxxxxx format!!! Of course, if you try to dial any of those numbers, guess who picks up the line? You've guessed right!!! The POLICE!!! How can they be such a bunch of flaming @$$h0les???? |

I find it very strange that number matching would not work, are you sure you have your region settings set to the correct local?
my only gripe is that on my carrier "name display" (info about numbers not in your phone book) is "not compatable" despite being included in the iphone package. Aswell, aberas call apple directly about the button issue. the phone i got had a defect int he volume button and they told me to go to an apple store, told them it was too far away to drive so they mailed me a box. send them the phone and they mail you back another one. took about 6 business days for the whole thing. |

Otachi:
As I've stated in the post, there is no official apple representative in Argentina, so I can't go directly to apple about the mute button... As for the number matching, is a well known bug in a lot of countries (see skanero post above). Thanks for the interest/suggestions, though. Skanero: Yeah, that works here also, but if you mistake the number that you should choose to send a sms you get more than one thread of sms by person... ... and, why I'm explaining this to you? Surely you are as pissed as I am, so sorry, mi amigo cordillerano... |

unless you have something useful to say STFU i'm paying a lot of money to have this thing on a official carrier.. all i'm saying is that apple should have fixed this before the official release

I'm also getting a little pissed with Apple, I've had my phone jailbroken, and running completely stock on 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2 and now 2.1. This last update should have followed proper conventions and been 2.0.3 because I dont think fewer bugs counts as a f*%$£ng feature. I never signed up for any beta testing programs, but the amount of data I've lost and the time I've spent says the opposite.
