Default [iphone 3G] Cannot restore Official firmware, Error 6 Help!

Hey guys, so today I was planning on jailbreaking my friends brand spankin new iPhone 3G. Tried my custom firmware with Winpwn and it gave me an Error 1. Then tried restoring its firmware to the official apple 2.0.1 and received the Error 6 several times. I tried both - DFU mode and Restore mode....nothing works always gets me an Error 6 anybody knows how to get around this?? Thanks!

So you've screwed you friends brand spanking 3G iPhone, I bet your well popular. I've had a little search around for you and I can't find anything definitive. Some have had to return their phones to apple, and others tried other cables, pc's or Macs and sorted it. All I can advise is to make sure you are actually in DFU mode and not recovery mode when you attempt the restore. Good luck man,

Google is YOUR friend

Had same problem and had to change from the Desktop PC to the laptop and everything was fine. Looks like I had too much old junk on the desktop, iLiberty, and other stuff.
Could be your PC has old winpwn, or other files... worth a try on another computer.

sounds like your using the wrong firmware version. Error 1-6 is 99% that issue.

The iPhone is not in DFU mode but in restore mode, assure that you put in DFU mode

I think your flashing the wrong firmware :S. Or a corrupted one.

Re-download the firmware and flash it.

Very simple solution.

Remove your current iTunes.

Install iTunes 7.5

Enter DFU mode

Restore 1.1.4 firmware.

It's going to work!

After that reinstall iTunes 7.7 and proceed normally.
