Okay, so I just received an iPhone 3G from eBay and it came unactivated (was at "Activate" screen). So I used WinPwn for FW 2.0.1 and everything came out fine, but when I put in my Cingular SIM, I get no bars (not even an "AT&T" carrier sign like my old iPhone). I thought the 3G iPhone was supposed to work with any AT&T/Cingular SIMs? Or does that only happen on a legitimately activated iPhone 3G?

I tried checking/unchecking Activate when building the IPSW, and I started the phone out as a "New iPhone". Any suggestions? Or do I have to wait for an unlock?

I will be in the same boat once my iPhone 3g is shipped. I never had problems with my original iPhone 2g and sim... but 3g may be another story. I know I have a very dated sim card (got it when the RAZR was recently released for $200ish). I know my girlfriend was called by AT&T to get her sim card replaced and updated... but I never got that done. I hope this problem won't effect me as well.

Same with me... but I fixed it! It was simple, actually. All you have to do is put in your SIM and connect to iTunes, and it should automatically activate the phone for you! If not, just restore the phone with the SIM in it and you should be all set. It worked for me anyway :]

are you using the official iphone plan? or do you just have a regular voice plan?

I'm just using a regular voice plan. I have bossprefs to turn of Edge. Although I was wondering, is 3g talk the same as 3g data? If I use 3g for voice, will I get charged for it like data? Or is it something entirely different.

did you selct activate or youtube fix when using winpwn, if so you need to redo it
