Hey guys,
I currently have an iPhone 3G 16GB from an official carrier Optus.
However I want to unlock it to other carriers as well.
I have previously done this with my iPhone 2G using WinPwn with no problems
however when i try unlocking and jailbreaking with winpwn on my iPhone 3G, there is no signal available for the official carrier and other sim cards.

Any help is appreciated =)

first of all
r u a dummy in 3g iphone
please google about unlocking
software unlocking solution is still not out yet
u can jailbreak ur iphone 3g
but u cant unlock it at the moment
and for official carrier when u build ur IPSW file unmark the activate and the youtube fix option from winpwn
then activate using ur official carrier

yeap kinda noob in iPhone 3G. sorry sorry.
i only know how to unlock jailbreak my iphone 2G =)
ohwell. nvm then i will wait for an unlock solution to come out.

Where are you at, and where is your iPhone from?

Since your on optus which is an official carrier, shouldn't you be able to just do a restore/upgrade in itunes to the latest version 2.0.1 and it should be fine.

the phone i bought from overseas its with at&t
It says sim locked, i just wont to know if there is a way to sim unlock to get i working so i can use my optus sim here in austrlia.
i tryed winpwn but all the firmwares 2.0 or 2.01 i try using under advantce tab in winpwn i only get the option of choosing "active iphone"
and "no wipe" others are not available to even select? So any help at aLL?

L is correct, you should be able to do a restore in iTunes to the official Apple firmware and itunes should then recognise the handset as new, follow the instructions to set up with your sim in the phone and it should register. Let us know how you get on.

i just restored in itune to its orginal firmware
it says the sim card inserted does not appear to be supported
as i dont have the orginal at&t sim im trying to use my optus sim
and when i turn the i phone on its got the itunes music symbol with itunes cable pointing towards it........and i can only make emergency phone calls

What you are trying to do is not possible as far as I know.
