open iTunes
plug in iPhone
wait till iTunes connects with iPhone
if iPhone is in sleep mode wake it up
press home and sleep button simultaneously until you hear iTunes recognize it
let go of the sleep button only (right after you hear iTunes recognize it)
wait about 20 seconds with home button pressed
iTunes will detect phone in DFU mode
let go of home button and your done!

screen should be black
if its not all black then you did it wrong

Here is a video guide on youtube. If you can't get it from this, then something is wrong:

I am fine doing the DFU thanks to you guys however when i try to flash the custom firmware i get errors i've come to believe that we are just beta tester in this Winpwn thing.

Hi. Of course you are a beta tester, we all are !
cmw cannot afford to hire dozens of beta testers to test everything before release.
Its left to the actual users to report any errors they find, just like you are doing now.

However, the chances are the error you are getting is not because of winpwn but something that you may not have done correctly. Post the error number here and I will tell you what it means and how to fix it.
