Hi All,
1) I bought my factory unlocked iphone with firmware version 3.0.1 installed. 2) I upgraded it to 3.1.2, then I used Pwnage Tool version 3.1.4 to jailbreak the iphone. 3) I'm with a non-official carrier (I live in China, so I use China Mobile), so I made sure the "Activate" option was checked when I made the custom firmware. 4) Cydia is now successfully installed, but I have no phone service. When I check in Settings > General > About, the carrier section states "Not Available". Can anybody help with suggestions? Some solutions I have tried that did not work:
Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Thanks for the reply.
I tried your solution. Created a new firmware with pwnagetool 3.1.4 on my mac. I made sure that the Activation box was unchecked this time. Unfortunately, iTunes comes back with the dreaded "There is a problem with your iPhone" message. I tried restoring back to the original 3.1.2 firmware and I get the same message. I've been trying to recover from this forever now with no luck. I tried deleting iTunes and reinstalling it. Creating a new user account. Using another PC and nothing works. HALP! ![]() ---------------------------- On a side note: I realize how I got confused with the Activation vs No Activation option. According to this link (Jailbreak iPhone 3G OS 3.1.2 Pwnage Tool (Mac) | iPhone) According to step 7: "If You are using an Unofficial service provider (i.e. T-Mobile) then check 'Activate the phone' ". I'm on China Mobile, which isn't an official service provider (i.e. AT&T), so I figured I check the Activation option. But I guess if you own a factory unlocked iphone, there is no such thing as an unofficial service provider... Is that statement true? |

Yes you could say with factory unlocked iPhones there are no unsupported carriers this is definitely true for activation.
I am sorry you are having problems restoring your iPhone now. Hope you work that out.

It's cool. Thanks for your help/suggestions. Anybody else?
I'm starting to think my iphone isn't actually factory unlocked (even though the model number MB496ZP checks out...) ![]() Anybody other suggestions? Any other factory unlocked iphone users having problems jailbreaking with 05.11.07 modem firmware? |

On the factory unlocked just make sure to first activate them with itunes when using pwnagetool afterwards. No need to care for the baseband version cause the iPhone is factory unlocked. I used DFU mode to make sure to get rid of all the test stuff I had installed before. i did not restore from backup after applying 3.1.2 btw.

...so it sounds like I'm doing something wrong on my end when I try to restore to 3.1.2.
Here's what I've been doing. Spot anything that I'm doing wrong? 1. Plug the iPhone into my Mac 2. iTunes 9.0.1 displays the "There is a problem with your iPhone" message on the white screen. (i.e., http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2039/...a4ada3bd95.jpg without the at&t logo in the upper-right) 3. I open up Pwnage Tool and use the DFU menu to place the iPhone in DFU mode. 4. Pwnage Tool says DFU mode was a success (here iTunes doesn't instantly recognize my iphone... it displays a small message telling me to unplug/replug the iphone back in) 5. I unplug/replug the iPhone back in via USB and iTunes says my phone is in recovery. 6. I click restore... let iTunes do its thing Boom.. iPhones displays the "There is a problem with your iPhone" message again... I also tried doing this from a fresh account and fresh install of itunes but with no luck.I'll try to find the exact error message my iTunes kicks out in step 4 and post it tonight. it's the only thing "out of the ordinary" that I can think of. Anyway, spot anything else that I may be doing wrong? Are there any special steps I need to take in DFU mode to make sure I get rid of all the test stuff? (maybe something is remaining left-over from a previous jailbreak attempt?) Once agian, any help is appreciated. Last edited by RichardDribbles; 10-27-2009 at 03:04 AM. |
