Running
iMAc on Leo 10.5.6 iPhone 3G/8GB (previously with turbo sim, and jailbroken on a Vodafone Sim Card) So trying to update my 3G 8gb Iphone. Had many problems with dropped signal and so on , so thought updated firmware may fix some of these issues. ho hum Succesfully restored my phone via Itunes to a the 2.2 software.. But now the Turbo Sim, and Voda Sim dont seem to work. So time to yellowsnow/jailbreak Step 1./ Succesfully downloaded Pwnage Tool, and the latest IPSW file. Step 2./ Succesfully ran the Pwnage Tool right up till it enters DFU mode, when it all grinds to a sickening halt. On further searching the website of Pwnage tool writers i discover this little gem. Quote:
Sounds bloody convoluted to me, anyone know of a simpler method ? A ten pound club hammer perhaps? I can't return to a back up image of my iphone, cos the sim card is recognised as not valid, (being vodaphone) and i can't do it without Sim card and the pwnage tool wont enter DFU Mode as i have 10.5.6. I dont have a developers account and i have no idea how to boot from a disk image with an old OS system on it. I can't buy an O2 Sim and put up with that as the phone now needs restoring.. and is currently locked and dead as a dodo. All help greatly recieved, i have read many of the threads on here, and while there are lots of posts that talk about the 10.5.6 issues, and lots of referrals to the Quick Fix by Volk? I can't seem to find anything that exactly covers my issue precisely.. So apologies if the information is out there and i've missed it. Last edited by DMC; 03-01-2009 at 06:22 PM. |

You should have a free user button to download the files as well as the premium one
Then all you do is unmount the two IOUSBFamily files to the desktop & follow the instructions given by the Dev team in your #1 post. 1) Unplug non-vital USB equipment, such as external DVD writers, USB scanners, USB mass storage devices 2) Install the Install IOUSBFamily-315.4.1.pkg files 3) Reboot the Mac 4) Perform necessary DFU activity with QuickPwn or PwnageTool. 5) Unplug non-vital USB equipment, such as external DVD writers, USB scanners, USB mass storage devices 6) Install the Install IOUSBFamily-327.4.0-log.dmg files 7) Reboot the Mac again

"Itunes has identified an iPod but it cannot identify it, Please disconnect and reconnect the iphone, error 2001" Seems its related to the DFU not functioning and since it seems i can't download the given fix as mentioned above, that makes sense. Anyone got ANY ideas? Last edited by DMC; 03-01-2009 at 10:20 PM. |

Emm
Is it possable you could try though a powered hub instead of playing with the IOUSBFamily files?

How will that help? (Excuse my ignorance) |

When you connect the phone to a powered USB "3 into 1 etc" hub it should allow you to get into DFU mode & quickpwn without the need to muck around with IOUSBFamily files.
