I am on 2.2 jailbroken and activated.
Now I dont have access to a mac. So a friend has created a custom IPSW with a 534 MB partition. a. When does it fail if the partition is too small during the creation of the package or when you try loading it. b. How do I make sure the file he made for me is in deed not going to update my baseband. Because I need yellow snow to use my phone. Thanks |

On b it is tricky to tell. If your friend only used PwnageTool 2.2.5 to create the custom firmware you dont have to worry. the Dev Team disabled the option to include a baseband update. Dont get me wrong on this one: If your friend does not like you at all, there would be two szenarios he could use to see you screwed up. He could rename a standard Apple firmware file to the naming convention of one created by PwnageTool. You could find out that one. He could use XPwn and modify a version to contain the baseband update. But, you are saying he's your friend: If he used PwnageTool 2.2.5 i would not worry.

The responce is appreciated. THe only one sadly.
Was hopping that it would be something clear cut and simple as open original firmware you will see these files in it. Optn the Custom Restore and you will see these files in it. Or that the following files have been modified. There has to be straight forward answer to this. This would also allow us to chk the files floating around on the net. My question on the size is he took the default value. The creation went thru. When exactly does it fail if the partition size is too small ? When you try writing the file to the iphone or when you try creating the custom IPSW. |

Also to verify whether the baseband update is disabled or not you can use the xpwntool to decrypt the restore ramdisk and check the options.plist file. I am replying from my iPhone so I cnt provide the full instructions but if you do want full instructions let me know and I will when I have access to a computer.

man Ive found help to be serioully lacking on hackintosh these days.
The spirit of helping has droped to zilch. TO answer my own question make sure the file 018-4437-16 does not exist in your 2.2.1 3G firmware before you apply it. Im still getting the 1601 error. Is it that I have to use a mac to apply this ? Isnt building it on a Mac Enoughf. Same PC same USB port works with with 2G and 2.2 of 3G Only the custom file is failing. 1) Extract the 018-4443-16.dmg file. 2) Download the nightly build of xpwn. 3) Extract xpwn and copy the 018-4443-16.dmg to the xpwn folder. 4) Then from command line run Code:
xpwntool 018-4443-16.dmg decrypted.dmg -k da010f69b0e2034b4ce7b7c90b63bad5 -iv 29ff3d43c4001b978963dee437e25386 6) Open the decrypted.dmg file using (HFSExplorer). 7)Browse to /usr/local/share/restore. If you do not see a options.plist file. It will update your baseband. 8) If you find the options.plist extract it and look at the contents of the file. There should be a key "UpdateBaseband" that should be set to false. Hope that helps you. Also regarding 1601 error make sure you are applying the restore from just restore mode and not dfu mode. Also remember update is not supported by pwnage. Good luck. Last edited by nathulal; 02-28-2009 at 07:17 PM. Reason: formatting |

I'm on windows so need to chk if what you posted applies. But thanks for clarifying the contents issue
I'm pretty sure that the instructions at the end of the pawnage program want you to enter dfu mode having to be in restore mode is. News to me need to read up on how to enter restore mode. Last edited by wnjunkie; 03-02-2009 at 10:44 AM. |
